Shipping Operations Manager manages shipping operations' daily activities, including order processing, inventory tracking, documentation, and transportation oversight. Utilizes enterprise resource planning (ERP) or other systems to record and track all shipping transactions, analyze performance metrics, and generate reports. Being a Shipping Operations Manager ensures shipping protocols and documentation meet required regulatory requirements for hazardous materials (DOT/HAZMAT) or special handling. Investigates and resolves shipping quality issues, damages, or lost freight claims. Additionally, Shipping Operations Manager develops and maintains relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and vendors. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Shipping Operations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Shipping Operations Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The Geophysical Institute is seeking an experienced Operations Manager. This position is vital to the success of researchers and their staff year-round. As the Operations Manager, you will oversee a dynamic office that helps coordinate permits, provides fieldwork support, and oversees three departments that support the research effort both inside and outside of Alaska.     Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and five years progressively responsible experience in facilities management, construction management, business management or equivalent combination of training and expertise. Demonstrated experience with leases and permits and Hazardous Materials training.

    A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.

    Position Details:

    This position will be physically located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. The successful finalist will be expected to report to duty at the UAF office on the first day of employment. This position is a full-time, Grade 80, continuing, exempt, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, based on education and experience.
