Shipping Operations Manager manages shipping operations' daily activities, including order processing, inventory tracking, documentation, and transportation oversight. Utilizes enterprise resource planning (ERP) or other systems to record and track all shipping transactions, analyze performance metrics, and generate reports. Being a Shipping Operations Manager ensures shipping protocols and documentation meet required regulatory requirements for hazardous materials (DOT/HAZMAT) or special handling. Investigates and resolves shipping quality issues, damages, or lost freight claims. Additionally, Shipping Operations Manager develops and maintains relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and vendors. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Shipping Operations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Shipping Operations Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Duties include:- Receive incoming shipments and verify the contents against the purchase orders
- Unload, inspect, and put away received materials in designated storage areas- Prepare and package outgoing shipments, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation- Operate warehouse equipment such as reach trucks, order pickers, RF scanners, and pallet jacks
- Maintain inventory accuracy by conducting regular cycle counts and reconciling discrepancies
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment
- Utilize warehouse management system (WMS) and AS400 to track inventory movements
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
Skills:- Three (3) years of experience in logistics/warehouse operations and administrative support services.
- Proficiency in operating warehouse equipment such as reach trucks, order pickers, RF scanners, and pallet jacks
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) and AS400- Ability to perform basic math calculations for inventory management- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in receiving and shipping processes
- Excellent organizational skills to maintain inventory control in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of distribution center operations and best practices for shipping and receiving
- Ability to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods of time
