Troubleshoots shipping delays or changes with carriers and communicates to customers. Additionally, Shipping Specialist ensures shipping protocols and documentation meet required regulatory requirements for hazardous materials (DOT/HAZMAT) or special handling. Investigates and resolves shipping non-conformance. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Shipping Specialist works under moderate supervision. The Shipping and Receiving Specialist position is responsible for ensuring all mailroom activities are completed efficiently and cost-effectively, including the delivery of mail, packages and out-going postal deliveries.
The position receives, inspects, and distributes incoming mail in a timely manner, finding the most appropriate means of shipping outgoing freight and preparing bulk mailings for shipping. The position cross-trains and provides coverage for the Shipping and Receiving, Campus Services and the Grounds Maintenance departments when necessary, and serves as a work lead for the Shipping and Receiving unit. The position reports to the Campus Services Crew Leader.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit and carry mail items. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, with or without a reasonable accommodation. Specific vision abilities required by this job include those needed to operate College vehicles and equipment, see close up i.e. mail and package addresses, and the ability to adjust focus both near and far.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and uses a vehicle and occasionally works evenings and on weekends. While performing the main duties of this position, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors delivering mail and freight throughout campus and works near, and with computers and computer monitors. While performing other duties as assigned i.e. with the Campus Services and Ground Maintenance departments, the employee will be exposed to moderate to high noise levels requiring hearing protection and seasonal outdoor conditions from very hot to very cold. May be called back after hours, on weekends, and holidays for emergencies, special assignments, snow removal and/or any other activity which requires the position's presence on campus and/or at the assigned work station. Call back assignments are at the discretion of the Campus Service Crew Leader or the Assistant Facility Operations Director.
