Job Summary

The Shipping / Receiving Clerk is responsible for tracking incoming loads, receiving material once it is unloaded, and ship accurate shipments to customers per customer order. Performs transactions on computer systems. Daily communication with both internal and external customers is required for planning purposes. This individual also plays a key role in load planning and inventory record accuracy.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Principal Duties:

• Maintain database by logging daily activities such as shipments, pictures and inbound/outbound trailers, prepare routine reports, and file shipping/receiving records.
• Prepares bills of lading: checks items to be shipped against work orders to determine that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
• Responds to customer phone calls and emails in a professional manner.
• Sorts, counts, packages, labels, tags, insures, unpacks, and/or logs inventory which is stored, shipped or received in company computer system and/or customer database.
• Receives incoming materials and compares information on packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment.
• Notifies carriers of outbound loads and logs shipment into the computer system.
• Traces lost shipments and/or customer claims of lost shipments; initiates proof of delivery documents.
• Inspects inbound and/or outbound shipments for discrepancies, damages or defects; records discrepancies or damages and notifies appropriate contact.

Other Duties:

• Understand and follow all ISO and 5S initiatives.
• Train coworkers through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
• Operates barcode scanner to adjust inventory in database.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
• Strong problem solving skills is required.
