Small Engine Mechanic repairs fractional-horsepower gasoline engines used to power lawnmowers, garden tractors, and similar machines. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Being a Small Engine Mechanic may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Small Engine Mechanic relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Position description: The Small Engine Mechanic must be familiar with all aspects of company small engine equipment appropriate to the landscape industry to include: running an established preventative maintenance (PM) program, making repairs as needed, scheduling all items for PM, training crews on use and PM of small engine equipment, etc. A Small Engine Mechanic must interact with all company personnel and display a professional demeanor at all times.
Reports to: The Small Engine Mechanic reports directly to the GM & Maintenance Manager.

Skill set and educational requirements: The Small Engine Mechanic must possess the following skill set and educational background:
Minimum of two or three years of experience as a general or Small Engine Mechanic.
Hold appropriate certifications for a Small Engine Mechanic’s position.
Possess a valid driver’s license
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
Proficient in both oral and written communications.
Proficient in inventory management/control of repair parts.
Able to create an atmosphere of cooperation and professionalism with all office and field personnel.
Able to represent the company in a courteous and professional manner.
Responsibilities:
Salary, bonus, and/or commissions: Commensurate with experience ($17.00 to $25.00 an hour).
Appraisal criteria: The primary appraisal criteria for the Small Engine Mechanic is to effectively supervise the equipment department’s small engine equipment PM program, conducting all small engine equipment repairs, while maintaining a safe, professional, and efficient operation.
