    As a Loan Specialist, GS-1165-09, you will be responsible for:

    • Reviewing routine and standard consumer and commercial loan documents and determines SBA's rights in the collateral. Inventories collateral to ensure that all pledged property is available or duly accounted for. Obtaining appraisals and liquidating value of the inventoried property.
    • Preparing written recommendations for charge off actions on consumer and commercial loans where all collateral has been disposed of or where SBA determines that further liquidation of collateral is not economically feasible. Reviewing charged off consumer and commercial loans that are subject to periodic review to endeavor to discover assets that may be available.
    • Analyzing financial statements of obligors and endeavors to determine their prospects for continued payment on consumer and commercial loans in connection with modifications of payments or other loan terms. Working closely with financial institutions and other commercial entities.
    • Investigating and determining financial responsibility of obligors who may be liable for the payment of indebtedness for use in connection with recommending collection procedures, or legal action to enforce payment.
    • Providing necessary information as needed to legal staff in preparing various releases and other documents to be executed on behalf of SBA. Supplying information necessary for filing lawsuits against obligors on behalf of the Agency.

    Qualifications

    Specialized Experience for GS-09: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector:
    • providing analysis of loss mitigation strategies to include loan write-off or foreclosure actions; and
    • ordering credit reports, property reports, collateral valuation reports and other data as required by action(s) taken; and
    • conducting loan review analysis to determine equity position and documents review on loan tracking platform; and
    • reviewing loan file for accuracy of submitted documents on a variety of loan resolution strategies and contacts borrower for follow up; and
    • interacting with Loan Servicing Assistant, Senior Loan Specialist and Supervisor throughout loan resolution life cycle; and
    • use of Microsoft office products and has ability to analyze title, credit, bankruptcy, loan documents and other documentation to determine recoverable value and resolution recommendations; and
    • demonstrates knowledge of a variety of collateral, business types, loan programs and collection experiences.
