Small Engine Mechanic repairs fractional-horsepower gasoline engines used to power lawnmowers, garden tractors, and similar machines. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Being a Small Engine Mechanic may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Small Engine Mechanic relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs basic diagnostics, service repairs and maintenance work on customer and / or dealer-owned agricultural and turf equipment.
May require some direction or guidance from the Service Manager, Shop Foreman or senior technicians. Job Duties Performs diagnostics and reports on handheld, agricultural, and turf equipment and established Ag Management Solutions (AMS) products.
Participates in Service EDUCATE Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge.Maintains current knowledge of John Deere and Competitive products.
Maintains condition of vehicles, inventory, tools and equipment.Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignmentsCompletes all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignmentsAccounts for all time in the time keeping systems and for all material used in performing assigned duties.
All other duties as assigned Job Requirements 2 years of experience performing diagnostic and service repairs on 2 and 4 stroke equipment.
Ability to perform basic repairs and required maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual ProceduresProficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems used in the repair of agricultural and turf equipment.
Ability to use Service Advisor and basic computer functionsAbility to operate vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposesProficient oral and written communication skillsAbility to lift at least 75 lbs repeatedlyBasic Service Technician certification preferredHigh School Diploma or equivalent experience required;
