As the Small Engine Mechanic, you will lead the activities of the shop to ensure that small and heavy equipment are available, dependable, and safe always. You will oversee the preventative maintenance program and ensure compliance with corporate policies and government regulations.

Specific Responsibilities:
- Analyze maintenance costs and provide recommendations on small equipment utilization and replacement.
- Track small equipment usage and maintain accurate inventory of equipment.
- Assist Fleet Manager in the development of budgets by providing input that is relative to costs.
- Ensure the maintenance records for small equipment are accurate and up to date.
- Complete full maintenance service for all small equipment and tools for each crew on a weekly basis.
- Ensure that all equipment operates efficiently and safely always.
- Make sure blades for mowers are sharpen and changed regularly.
- Maintain and service heavy equipment regularly and be able to operate them.
- Organize areas for stored equipment, line up equipment to be worked next day.
- Communicate maintenance requirements to ensure maximum efficiency and implement correction actions as required.
- Participate in the recruitment of shop personnel as required or needed.
- Maintain all inventories to minimize downtime.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
- Lead personnel in day-to-day activities to ensure they are safe and efficient
Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Small engine, 2 cycle experience
- Welding experience
- Master Service Technician. Training or experience with OEM’s (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
for landscaping power equipment & machinery
- Valid drivers’ license and prefer CDL. Must meet all regulatory requirements to operate trucks and other equipment used.
- Minimum 5years experience in a truck/small engine fleet management role.
- Experience with off-road heavy equipment a must.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and team orientation.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced
- Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills in the English language.
Working Environment:
- Extensive knowledge of shop system and processes.
- Physical – Standing, sitting, climbing, walking, crouching, and stooping. Carrying up to 100 pounds, extensive use of hands, vision, arms, and voice.
- Requires basic math skills, the ability to problem solve daily, and coordinate numerous activities at the same time.
- Working outdoors for long periods of time, occasionally in inclement weather conditions. Exposure to power tools and dangerous materials/chemicals.
- This is a working manager’s position, so repairs and preventative maintenance are performed on a regular basis, while still taking care of all other inventory & equipment responsibilities and duties.
- Ensure that the shop is always well organized and free of safety hazards.
- Ensure that all facility areas are organized and safe i.e. fuel tanks, storage areas, outdoor lighting, and heating for shop.
