    Job Description:

    JOB SUMMARY

    The New York Center for Research, Economic Advancement, Technology, Engineering, and Science (NY CREATES) is a world-leading R&D, innovation hub and commercialization facilitator in advanced semiconductors.

    Through investments from the Microelectronics Commons, the Northeast Regional Defense Technology Hub (NORDTECH), a consortium led by NY CREATES with university and industry partners, will accelerate prototyping and technology maturation to meet the intensifying imperatives of national security and economic competitiveness surrounding the domestic semiconductor reshoring effort.

    Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • The Communications Specialist will be responsible for carrying out key communications and social media functions for NY CREATES (approximately .75 time), and act as or in support of the Communications Lead for the Northeast Regional Defense Technology Hub (NORDTECH) (approximately .25 time).
    • The Communications Specialist will report to and work closely with NY CREATES' Director of Communications and Outreach to write compelling content for the NY CREATES and NORDTECH websites, the public, and targeted audiences. This includes drafting news releases, feature story articles, and other publicity by planning and obtaining all relevant information and forms of media to share NY CREATES' and NORDTECH's world-class capabilities and expertise on a variety of digital platforms.
    • The successful candidate will also be able to create professional, high quality PowerPoint presentations and work with the graphics lead to portray the exciting story of both NY CREATES and NORDTECH to global partners. The Communications Specialist will also update NY CREATES' news and communications-related webpages and other documents and online collateral, ensuring accurate, detailed, and well edited information is shared with our international audience.
    • The successful candidate will have had experience working with members of the media to respond to media inquiries and opportunities, acting as the media liaison as needed.
    • In this role, they will assist with the coordination and preparation for on-site and virtual media and leader/staff interviews, monitor media results, and serve as copywriter and editor for various print/digital communications/marketing campaigns. They will create, curate, and post engaging and creative content for a variety of social media channels (Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.), which should include, but is not limited to video, photo, and written content, fostering clear, concise, and consistent messaging.
    • This position will require hours outside the typical workday when needed; other reasonable duties as assigned.


    Requirements:

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, television production, online media, or a related field.
    • A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Dept. of Education or other internationally recognized accrediting institution; bachelor's degrees in physics, chemistry, engineering, or materials science will also be considered.
    • Demonstrated ability to write creative, clear, and concise text for use across multiple media and marketing platforms, including print, online, digital, and video.
    • Demonstrated ability to be effective working within both large, multi-faceted organizations and fast-paced entrepreneurial environments.
    • This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual checks.
    • Demonstrated analytical skills including knowledge of legal, corporate governance, research, and global issues; outstanding interpersonal, and exceptional oral and written communication proficiency; the ability to prudently handle confidential and sensitive information; and experience with strategic planning and project management are required skill sets.

    Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000

    • Posted salary ranges are dependent upon experience and education.
