Social Work Manager plans and implements programs to meet the social and emotional needs of patients and patients' families in a health care setting. Develops plans for patient care after release from treatment. Being a Social Work Manager provides social services to patients/clients and their families. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, patients and their families to assess patient social needs and monitor progress of medical treatment. Additionally, Social Work Manager coordinates planning for post-discharge care. Supervises professional staff. Prepares departmental budgets and reports. Requires a master's degree of Social Work. Typically reports to a director. The Social Work Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Applies principles of adult learning to education processes and modifies as needed to accommodate for generational differences. Works side-by-side with staff to effectively train and assess staff's progress towards established learning outcomes and level of performance. Provides real-time feedback to staff and demonstrates the ability to turn successes and failures into meaningful "training moments." Exhibits energetic and engaging team building education methods that produce a high-performance team that adopts a care delivery model of accountability, empowerment and transformation of care to evidenced-based practice. Embraces new social work staff hires and facilitates a smooth transition into the department workforce and practice setting. Collaborates with Staff Development colleagues and other clinical educators to strategically plan educational programs based on needs assessments, minimize duplication of efforts and ensure standardization of educational material and processes. Serves as a clinical resource, mentor and preceptor for staff and influences the workforce to achieve a high level of performance reflecting the social work strategic plan, vision and values of the organization. Presents lectures associated with clinical specialty for programs coordinated by Staff Development. Performs other duties as needed.

    Education and Experience: Master's Degree in Social Work required. Three years of Social Work experience that has provided an opportunity to demonstrate competencies in leadership, clinical social work, administration or social work education required.

    Knowledge and Skills: Substantial knowledge of clinical practice in area of specialty, licensed and unlicensed Social Work scope of practices. Broad knowledge of quality, patient safety, performance improvement, regulatory requirements, medical staff structure, peer review and legal aspects of care. Demonstrates professional competency and ability to develop and champion clinical outcome improvements in a multi-initiative organization with competing priorities. Must demonstrate flexibility and ability to adeptly reset priorities as needed. Make public presentations to large and small audiences. Demonstrates a high degree of social skills in obtaining cooperation and support from a broad range of people with various levels of education and responsibility. Able to work effectively with others. Able to inspire and motivate others. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.

    Licensures and Certifications: Active Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science required. National Social Work Association (NSWA) membership required. Valid Driver's License required.
