Position Summary
Reporting to the Head of Software Engineering, Metrea Advanced Signals (MAS), and supporting Metrea Aerospace’s overall engineering efforts, the Software Engineer will join our busy team specializing in state-of-the-art military communications and signals intelligence products.
All our teams operate in a small and agile environment which allows our engineering personnel to work independently on a wide variety of systems and products. As such, the Software Engineer will interface with hardware design and development engineers. Our typical product development cycle is less than one year which provides our engineering staff a constant flow of new and interesting projects.
The Software Engineer will be tasked with design and implementation of embedded systems software from the requirements phase to delivery of the product. They will analyze, design, and implement firmware subsystems given a set of high-level requirements. Additionally, they will analyze and improve system performance as needed.
The Software Engineer must be able to assist in the development and transition of proof of concept and rapid prototype solutions into scalable quality production ready systems. Must be able to develop maintenance and sustainment CONOPS for fielded production systems including handling technology insertion roadmaps and handling obsolescence issues. Software Engineer RESPONSIBILITIES: Developing the Metrea Capability (“ΟΝ”)
Process, Systems & Frameworks Development: Support the design, development, and management of small teams of mixed engineering disciplines: Mechanical, Electrical, RF, Software; in schedule and resource constrained high priority projects with particular focus on the implementation of effective, efficient, and scalable technologies and processes that assist in execution of the business, and customer and mission support.
Support the development of the necessary engineering frameworks and models, and in partnership across Metrea Aerospace, acquire and implement systems, capabilities, and methodologies that will best facilitate customer support from tactical to strategic levels across the group.
Support the development of an overall technical solution that covers the entire product management lifecycle: working with end customers to discover current use cases, needs, and capabilities, developing CONOPS, solution architectures, requirements synthesis, and decomposition, trade studies, make vs buy decisions, and analysis of alternatives.
People Development: Identify areas of growth in Metrea Aerospace’s knowledge, skillsets, and attitudes, and develop a systematic approach to professional development and talent acquisition in order to build a high-performing systems engineering team.
Technology Development: Identify RF software, hardware, and infrastructure requirements to support Metrea and MAS and create a roadmap framework across Metrea Aerospace.
TEAMMATE RESPONSIBILITIES: Providing Support Capacity across Metrea (“IN”)
Strategy BCA: Support the Strategy (STRAT) BCA to inform enterprise strategy with key MAS and Metrea Aerospace considerations and remain an active participant on all major enterprise engineering decisions, to include the commencement of new software, hardware, and infrastructure capabilities.
Operations BCA: Work closely with the MAS and the Electromagnetic & Cyber Group (EMCG) Leadership Team to inform the design, implementation, and further development of Metrea Aerospace’s technical and engineering methodologies.
Legal BCA: Provide LEG/Compliance with the EMCG’s inputs that are required to perform all necessary compliance functions and ensure that Metrea’s compliance policies cover all known requirements as required.
Work closely with LEG/Contracts to ensure that contract structuring & economics supports business objectives and customer requirements.

Required Education, Experience and Certificates
BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Electrical Engineering
3 years’ experience in software development
Proficient at programming in C or C and Python
Experience in hands-on development on embedded targets, including multi-processor systems
Familiarity with digital signal processing concepts (FFTs, filtering, mixing, resampling, etc.)
Familiarity with software configuration management tools
Familiarity with Linux
Ability to work with a small team of hardware and software engineers to build cutting edge products
Must be able to work with multiple engineering disciplines, communicate effectively with customers, business development staff, program and project management staff, manufacturing engineering, production, field support, and training staff.
Computer Skills: strong understanding in Microsoft Office Suite Programs; Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Preferred Education, Experience and Certificates
Experience developing software for TI/Blackfin DSPs
Understanding of digital signal processing concepts such as FFTs, filtering, mixing, resampling,
etc.
Wireless protocol and/or waveform development experience
Knowledge of ARM based Linux development environments and Yocto build tools
Experience developing with Xilinx or Altera System on a Chip (SoC) technology

Experience within the aerospace, defense, security and/or government contracting and logistics across several programs and/or projects simultaneously.
Moderate experience in capturing customer requirements and assisting in the development of statements of work (SOW), plans of action and milestones, and customer interactions.
Basic understanding of the policies, processes, priorities, and organization of the US Government in general, and the Department of Defense in particular, around national security matters.
