Role Description:
In the role of AVP, Software Engineering, you will be a key member of the senior IT management team. You will have overall responsibility for the vision and roadmap for the software engineering discipline at Safety National. This includes all decisions related to how the software engineering teams deliver value to their assigned teams, this department, Safety National and its clients. Additionally, you will be responsible for the non-functional requirements of the software systems built and supported by the software engineering unit. This includes but is not limited to: Performance, Scalability, Security, Usability, and Maintainability considerations. By leading the teams delivering high quality, secure systems in our agile environment, you will make a profound and lasting impact to Safety National.
One of the primary responsibilities you will fulfill in this role is lead your workforce. This includes mentoring a team of Software Engineering Directors and Managers, focusing on empowerment of the teams and user satisfaction. You will also oversee the recruiting, training, mentoring and management of software engineering teams, which include development and both manual and automated software testing professionals. Fostering a culture of iterative improvement amongst your teams by defining, tracking, interpreting, and reporting metrics and Key Performance Indicators for employees and teams, will also be required of you.
On the technical side, facilitating and tracking project status and identifying problems and issues, allocating appropriate resources, and identifying solutions to meet deadlines for technical services teams and contractors. Collaborating with the Lean Portfolio Management Office to establish and implement strategies that align the technical (non-functional) requirements of our software with the business needs will be critical to your success in this role. To be successful, it will be imperative that you understand the business context (trends and business strategy) leading to development of execution plan for team(s) to deliver on our strategic initiatives.
The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineering leader who builds strong cross-organizational relationships; and effectively influences staff across the IT organization and broader enterprise to drive and realize enterprise information strategies. Someone who creates cohesive teams and promote open communication among members to encourage cooperation and strong customer service orientation is highly desired. Prior experience effectively managing cost and quality improvement activities. Professional communication skills including the ability to discuss complex technical information with a wide variety of audiences in an influential, clear, and respectful way is expected.
