    Raba Kistner is seeking a detailed-oriented, dependable Environmental Scientist I to join our Environmental team in the Rio Grande Valley area or Corpus Christi, TX. The Environmental Scientist I responsibilities encompass supporting and contributing to a successful Environmental Services Division through execution of natural resources and regulatory compliance projects under the supervision or guidance of a project manager and/or technical expert. Primary responsibilities include:

    • Performance of field inspections, surveys and reports for projects including but not limited to wetlands and waters of the US delineations
    • Identification and mapping of threatened and endangered species habitats
    • Industrial and construction stormwater pollution prevention inspections.

    Other responsibilities include:

    • Conduct field work and data reduction to support multi-media environmental projects.
    • Interpret technical information and assist with preparation of technical reports.

    • with preparation of environmental registrations, permits and other submittals required by federal, state, or local agencies.
    • Perform desktop studies and coordinate with resource agencies to identify project related environmental constraints (TPWD, USFWS, TCEQ, and others).
    • Participate in natural resources and NEPA-related studies.
    • Conduct storm water compliance inspections and reporting.
    • Participate in Phase I and/or Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
    • Coordinate activities of subcontractors on assigned projects
    • Participate in regulatory or clients audits.
    • Participate in public involvement activities.
    • Interact with clients as necessary.
    • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science/engineering, chemistry, geology, biology or related field
    • 0-3 years of related experience
    • Stormwater Certification (CESSWI, CPESC ) or equivalent preferred.
    • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER preferred.
    • Possess a valid driver’s license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet company’s auto insurability requirements.

    Basic knowledge of or capability to learn natural resources (NEPA, wetland and waters of the US delineations) and TCEQ’s multi-sector general permit for industrial and construction stormwater. Basic knowledge of or capability to learn how to operate geographic data collection and other scientific data collection equipment. Knowledge of or capability to learn field sample collection protocols and processes. Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Must be able to work in a team environment.

    Good oral and written communications skills and ability to work in teams at different levels within the organization. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane, algebra, solid geometry and trigonometry. Intermediate - Advanced in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher). Able and willing to travel out of town and overnight to Raba Kistner offices, client offices, and project locations if necessary. Able to travel to project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain and work in different weather conditions.

    Occasionally may work near moving mechanical parts (spinning shafts, engines, lifts, etc.), fumes or airborne particles (painting, sanding, solvents, flying lint or dust particles, etc.), toxic or caustic chemicals (including potential for chemical spills, etc.). Regularly work in outdoor weather conditions (exposure to outdoor heat, cold or inclement weather).

    This position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs.
