Soil Scientist studies, investigates, and conducts experiments on different soil/plant types to determine use capabilities of soils, and effects of alternative practices on soil productivity. Applies a wide range concepts, practices, and procedures from two or more specialized fields of science, such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, or agriculture. Being a Soil Scientist may require a bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences or a related field with at least 5 years of work experience. May direct the work of a small group of employees. Additionally, Soil Scientist relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Typically reports to a senior manager and may be considered the lead for a specific area or unit. Essential Duties:
· Dig and perform on-lot percolation tests.
· Review sewage applications and issuance of permits.
· Conduct inspections for on-lot sewage systems.
· Review and approve planning modules.
· Conduct investigations of possible violations.
Qualifications:
● PA SEO Certification preferred. Opportunity to become certified with a 4-year college degree in a related curriculum.
● Knowledge of current sewage enforcement code regulations.
● Motivation and ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects.
● Ability to perform tasks with minimal oversight.
● Willingness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges.
● Ability to adjust to changing schedules.
● Capability of completing work on your own, as well as with a team.
Strong emphasis is placed on the ability to effectively communicate technical information, orally and in writing, in a professional manner to contractors, developers, property owners, employees, consultants, other governmental agency representatives, municipal officials and the public. The position offers a desirable mix of office and fieldwork opportunities.
