Applies a wide range concepts, practices, and procedures from two or more specialized fields of science, such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, or agriculture. Being a Soil Scientist may require a bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences or a related field with at least 5 years of work experience. May direct the work of a small group of employees. Additionally, Soil Scientist relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Typically reports to a senior manager and may be considered the lead for a specific area or unit. Essential Responsibilities:
As a Research Scientist – Corrosion, you will:
Conduct research in an interdisciplinary team environment involving alloy design and modification, property optimization, corrosion property evaluation, environmental degradation, and root cause analysis with focus on high temperature structural application for Power generation industries.
Work across organizations, including interfacing with external agencies, GE businesses and universities on technical approach and execution.
Participate in the authorship of program proposals to external agencies and participate in the execution of government contracts.
Share project progress internally and externally through oral presentations and written reports.
Foster a multidisciplinary and inclusive team environment
Perform all work in accordance with EHS guidelines.
Qualifications/Requirements:
PhD in Metallurgy, Materials Science & Engineering, or related field or MS degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science & Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a research environment.
Experience in alloy design and performance evaluation of materials with the focus on environmental degradation
Experience in building relationship between microstructure, processing and performance of metallic materials systems.
Desire and flexibility to contribute to projects across Materials portfolio with the focus on environmental degradation property evaluation of various metallic systems, including but not limited to Fe, Ni, Co, Al, and Ti.
Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills in a global team environment.
Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.

Desired Characteristics:
Experience in the utilization of advanced characterization techniques (i.e. SEM, TEM, XRD)
Experience in image analysis and designing experiments including the use of machine learning protocol
Hands on experience with various corrosion testing techniques such as oxidation test, autoclave
Experience in the use of computational materials science toward industrial research and development projects, including the application of machine learning and AI-based tools to materials-focused outcomes
The salary range for this position is $85,600-$142,600 US dollars annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
