Sommelier manages the daily activities necessary for maintenance and promotion of the organization's wine collection. Identifies and purchases wines for the organization. Being a Sommelier monitors the conditions of the wine cellar, ensuring optimal storage. Works with the kitchen staff to develop food and wine pairings. Additionally, Sommelier recommends and serves wine to guests. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May possess or be working towards certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Sommelier works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Provenance is an intimate french fine dining restaurant in the heart of Philadelphia's Society Hill neighborhood. We are anticipating a spring 2024' opening. We believe in creating a genuine relationship with our future employees based off of shared respect, goals, interests, and general vision for the hospitality industry. Candidates must be willing to engage in a series of interviews to define mutual compatibility for employment leading up to the opening of the restaurant.
The Sommelier is responsible for delivering excellent wine service and hospitality while demonstrating strong product knowledge in a fast paced yet intimate environment. Training and development is an important part of Provenance and there are opportunities for Sommeliers to participate in wine industry tastings/events, tastings with visiting winemakers, and continuing your professional development within the wine world.
The sommelier is also the primary wine buyer for the restaurant, and responsible for developing the cellar of the restaurant.
Sommeliers work as part of the service team. Sommeliers act as leaders on the floor, driving service and enhancing the guest experience through all beverage offerings including wine pairings, wines by the glass, and the selection wine list.
