Special Education Teacher jobs in Eugene, OR

The person in this position will work under the supervision of the building principal and the district’s special programs director and is responsible for teaching students.  This person will be responsible for providing, designing and adapting instructional programs for the special educational needs of identified students in a variety of settings, as well as case management of student files, including students aged 18-21.  This person must have strong interpersonal skills to connect with students and foster a growth mindset.  This individual must work collaboratively with other members of the staff to provide students with a well-planned, organized instructional program utilizing data and evidence-based practices. This person is also responsible for directing and training Instructional Assistants.

Qualifications Required

1. Current Oregon Special Education Teaching License;
2. Experience with meeting the specialized needs of students with a range of mild to moderate disabilities;
3. Strong interpersonal skills;
4. Ability to provide appropriate instruction to students based on diagnosed needs;
5. Skills in using data to make instructional decisions;
6. Demonstrated behavior management techniques;
7. Proficient in developing and implementing effective behavior intervention plans;
8. Understand and adhere to special education law requirements;
9. Ability to manage a workload to cover testing, placement, teaching, conferencing, and file management;
10. Ability to write, implement, and follow up on IEPs for specific students in need of specialized instruction and facilitate IEP meetings;
11. Knowledge and experience with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS);
12. Understanding of Common Core State Standards;
13. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, administrators, students, parents, and patrons;
14. Ability to convey to parents and teachers the students’ learning strengths and needs;
15. Ability to provide direction and training to instructional assistants who are assigned to assist with student instruction;
16. Ability to meet the Junction City School District Standards of Competent Teacher Performance and the Oregon Standards for Professional Educators.

Qualifications Desired

1. Possession of or ability to obtain a current First Aid/CPR card;
2. Experience with Transition casemanagement (students aged 18-21);
3. Experience Co-Teaching with general ed teachers.
