Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives and Special Projects

  • DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

    This position is responsible for coordinating and performing a variety of functions for all projects assigned by the Director of Operations of the Legislative Black Caucus. The incumbent will be expected to research a wide array of topics in order to guide legislation, resolutions, and community outreach. This includes assisting staff in evaluating and planning immediate and long-term goals related to initiatives impacting historically marginalized communities.

    TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

    • Acts in a liaison capacity with the Office of the Chair, Office of the Majority staff, and other relevant stakeholders to coordinate research and reports;
    • Collaborates with County Departments and community organizations to collect essential data required for comprehensive research initiatives;
    • Researches, recommends, and assists with developing a variety of issue-specific initiatives pertaining to underserved communities;
    • Conducts technical assistance and information dissemination to community organizations and other entities as needed;
    • Monitors and evaluates efforts ensuring preference is given to disenfranchised communities with the greatest economic and social needs;
    • Coordinates and performs a variety of functions in relation to all assigned special projects; and
    • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to shape legislative agendas that address the needs of marginalized communities.

    FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

    • Good knowledge of research methodologies and data collection procedures;
    • Strong writing skills;
    • Ability to prepare and communicate statistical data;
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
    • Ability to create a positive environment in response to constant change; and
    • Takes initiative and is resourceful.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Public Policy, Political Science, Social Sciences, or a related discipline. Master’s Degree preferred;
    • Demonstrated expertise in legislative research, project coordination, and community outreach through formal education or relevant work experience;
    • Knowledge of issues affecting historically marginalized communities and a commitment to addressing social and economic disparities;
    • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to provide insightful recommendations for legislative and community initiatives; and
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration and presentation of initiatives

    BENEFITS:
