    Job Description

    Position Title:             Manager of Cultural Arts and Special Events

    Reports to:                  Senior Manager of Operations

    FLSA Status:                 Full-Time Exempt

    Salary Range:               $53,000-$57,000 DOQ

     

     Responsibilities:

    To participate in the Association’s overall purpose of providing leisure experiences in all areas of recreation to individuals with disabilities. Individuals served include all age and ability levels.  To work effectively with participants, staff, parents, park district and recreation department staff, teachers and others in the community.  Under the supervision of the Senior Manager of Operations, the primary responsibility of this position is the development and coordination of cultural arts and special events.

     

    Qualifications:

    1.      A Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, social work or a related field with three years of progressive full-time experience.

    2.      Current certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (or attained after one year) or Certified Parks and Recreational Professional (or attained after one year eligibility).

    3.      Must have an extensive knowledge of recreation activities and program planning and possess leadership abilities in a variety of recreation areas with special populations.

    4.      Experience in cultural arts programming preferred.

    5.      Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    6.      Must be able to work independently and demonstrate the ability to solve complex issues.

    7.      Class “D” drivers license, and certification by Handle With Care and First Aid/CPR/AED, or obtainable upon hire.

     

    Essential Functions:

    1.      Oversee all operations of the agency’s cultural arts program.

    A.      Develop, promote and coordinate cultural arts programming for children, teens and adults served by the association.

    B.      Plan and coordinate the association’s annual theater performances.

    C.      Research and develop fine art ideas and projects for use in programs and summer day camps.

    D.     Order and inventory agency cultural arts supplies.

    E.      Hire and supervise contractual specialty instructors for fine art programs.

    F.       Network with area agencies and facilities to promote the display of participant art.

    2.      Coordinate the agencies Special Event programs.

    A.      Secure facilities, supplies and transportation for all special events.

    B.      Prepare program materials for full-time and part-time leaders.

    C.      Research and develop new special event programs.                                   

    D.     Develop and monitor individual program budgets for all special events.

    E.      Maintain a special event file to include events, fees, contacts, and planning arrangements.  Act as a resource to the Regional Coordinators for planning programs in their area.

    F.       Evaluate special event offerings annually and make necessary adjustments based on evaluations and research.

    3.      Provide program related training and supervision of all support staff working within assigned project area.  Assist in the performance appraisal of same staff.

    4.      Assist in the preparation of the Association’s annual recreation budget and monitor on a monthly basis.

    5.      Assist in the preparation and distribution of all related flyers and brochures.

    6.      Provide direct leadership of programs an average of 6-8 hours weekly during all program seasons.

    7.      Provide direct leadership for assigned overnight trips.

    8.      Develop and implement annual performance goals for the assigned project areas.

    9.      Attend meetings, in-services, conferences and related workshops for continuing self-development through needed continuing education.

    10.  Assist in maintaining the agency safety program. 

    11.  Gathering, loading, transporting and setting up equipment.

    12.  Active participation in the NISRA Foundation events and other community events as   needed.

    13.  Ability to perform strenuous activity to include but not limited to physical transfer of participants with physical limitations, participant protection measures, loading and unloading equipment, and vigorous recreation activities.

    14.  Providing physical assistance and personal care to participants as needed. (i.e. Transferring individuals, pushing participants in wheelchairs, securing/tying down wheelchairs in association vehicles, assisting with daily living needs, etc.)

    15.  Transporting individuals with disabilities in association vehicles.

    16.  Perform related duties as required

    2.      To retrieve, load and set-up any equipment for presentation 

    3.      To pull out legs of table when preparing a room for a meeting.

    4.      To lift and move paper supplies.

    5.      To empty garbage cans.
