As a Director for Background Investigations, you will focus on identifying and implementing processes to improve the efficiency of our vetting programs. The ideal candidate should have the ability to work collaboratively with members of the team on projects and should also have the flexibility and skills to provide excellent operational and investigative support to the teams as well as the business units that we support!

    The Fidelity Investments Background Investigations team provides comprehensive global background vetting of all new hires, which includes permanent, temporary, and third-party contractors, as well as periodic reviews of our existing full-time associates. The background investigation process is proprietary and conducted by an in-house team of Investigators. Background investigations are conducted to protect the Fidelity brand, proactively reduce risk, mitigate the likelihood of an adverse incident occurring at Fidelity that could jeopardize investor and/or client confidence, reduce liability due to inconsistent hiring or screening practices, and avoid exposure to negligent hiring/retention lawsuits.

    The Background Investigations Director provides leadership and expertise for all investigative matters, consults with key partners, and directs the team conducting the investigations. This role provides leadership for group and Security-wide initiatives required to mitigate and resolve issues. This role monitors investigative effectiveness against established KPIs, recommends process and policy improvements as required, and ensures the overall function is run in a cost-effective manner. This role also may manage both managers and individual contributors.

    The Expertise and Skills You Bring

    • Strong leadership and operational process management skills
    • Exceptional relationship management and communication skills
    • 10-12 years of security, investigations, risk, compliance, or similar experience
    • Demonstrated expertise in investigative analysis and techniques
    • Strong understanding of Fidelity onboarding procedures, regulations impacting background investigations, the ability to identify potential regulatory issues and to work with the teams to address these issues in the design and development process
    • Proven experience leading and delivering results on large, transformational programs and projects
    • Strong ability to work independently and flourish in a matrixed/agile framework
    • Experience working collaboratively across various teams, including Risk, Legal, Technology, and Operations
    • Ability to simultaneously identify, prioritize, and address multiple issues and quickly respond to shifts in priorities
    • Skill in influencing key decision makers through a combination of knowledge, reasoning, relationships building and creativity.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent degree
