Description
Assist a student in self-sufficiency, communication, interpersonal, social, academic and mobility skills.
Assist student with balance, following directions, fine and/or gross motor activities, assist student on/off the van, prompts to stay focused, complex support needs, etc.
Encourages, supports, and educates the student by assisting him/her in performance of daily living activities necessary for her/his comfort, well-being, cooperation with peers and authority figures, and integrity.
Assists student in managing and maintaining his/her environment to meet special physical and psychological needs.
Completes duties of a classroom assistant when student is absent and/or travels to other location(s) as needed.
Assists teachers and/or student to arrange environment of room to best meet student’s needs.
Attends training sessions, in-service, and/or workshops designed for assistants working with individual students.
Participates in regular staff meetings, if appropriate.
Reads, understands, and is responsible for implementing and documenting behavior plan and/or individualized education program, as appropriate.
Follows direction of classroom teacher and program supervisor.
Assumes any other responsibilities as directed by Executive Director or his/her designee.

Qualifications
- HS diploma/GED, required
- Experience working with special needs, specifically autism, preferred
- Experience working with school age students preferred
- Willingness to obtain "qualified" status within one (1) year from date of hire
"Qualified" means having an associate's degree or higher; or having completed 2 years of post secondary study; or meeting a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a state or local assessment (CAPE test or Certificate of Competency). All paraprofessionals must also complete twenty (20) hours of professional development related to their assignment each school year in order to continue employment.
All Personal Care Assistants must hold or obtain First Aid/CPR certification and keep same current.
Terms of Employment
Full-time, 188 days/year; follows traditional 10 month school year schedule. This is a 7-hour day shift.
Monday-Friday, No nights, weekends, holidays or summer.
Salary
ESPA pay scale, minimum starting rate is $14.15/hour, plus comprehensive benefits package
