Speech and Language Pathologist assesses and treats speech and language disorders and impairments. Conducts evaluations of an individual's speech and language skills using applicable diagnostic materials and tools. Being a Speech and Language Pathologist develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials. Establishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating, and counseling. Additionally, Speech and Language Pathologist completes required documentation to record assessment and progress. Collaborates with physicians, family members, and other clinical providers to provide effective therapies. May direct support staff in assisting with treatment. Requires a master's degree in speech pathology. Requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Speech and Language Pathologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     JOB TITLE: Speech Pathologist


    DEPARTMENT:  Speech Clinic


    REPORTS TO:  Kathryn Wage, CCC-SLP, Director/Owner


     


    JOB SUMMARY: The Aspire Speech & Learning Center is seeking a speech, language pathologist who loves early intervention, is comfortable working with a team, and has exceptional relationship-building skills.  The position combines working in Baby Clinic setting at the Central Valley Regional Center and serving private practice clients in an office setting.  The Speech Pathologist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide professional-level care to clients and must demonstrate an understanding of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan. Diagnostic ability is critical to assess very young clients and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each client's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.


     


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


    1. Completes initial patient evaluations.
    2. Assures presence of physician order in the medical record.
    3. Completes evaluation per agency order, including recommended treatments, making changes with approval.
    4. Performance and documentation of initial evaluation within established departmental guidelines for timeliness.
    5. Obtains thorough patient history through subjective interviews and reviews of available objective information.
    6. Designs a specific plan of care following the determination of patient needs and revises as appropriate through ongoing assessment during treatment of a client.
    7. Formulates short-term/long-term goals based on results of an evaluation, complete with time frames.
    8. Treatment procedures follow established departmental policies and procedures, physician orders, and established plan of care.
    9. Provide supervision of support staff when assigned.
    10. Communicates verbally and written with other hospital employees, physicians, patients/families, and other agencies.
    11. Participates in care conferences and in-services.
    12. Presents information in an organized and fluent manner.
    13. Seeks professional development to benefit the organization and personal/professional growth.
    14. Stays current on new trends and developments in speech therapy by a survey of the literature.
    15. Presents to others in the department, information learned during continuing education and self-study.
    16. Maintains confidentiality, upholds patient rights and freedoms.
    17. Attends and contributes as appropriate to mandatory education, departmental staff meetings, and maintains continuing education units.
    18. Knows and follows policies relating to infection control.
    19. Conforms to all other policies and procedures of the facility.
    20. Other related duties as assigned.


    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:  Organizational Astuteness, Managing Processes, Process Improvement, Reporting Skills, Change Management, Coaching, Client Relationships, Supports Innovation, Developing Standards, Hiring, and Administrative Writing Skills


    EXPERIENCE: Experience in working with special needs populations across the age span.


    EDUCATION: Graduate of Master’s level accredited Speech Therapy Program. Second language ability is desirable.


    CERTIFICATION: Licensed Speech Therapist by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs and Clinical Certificate of Competence from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association.  CFY will be considered.


    EXPERIENCE: 2 years Speech Pathology experience preferred.
