Speech and Language Pathologist jobs in Pierre, SD

Speech and Language Pathologist assesses and treats speech and language disorders and impairments. Conducts evaluations of an individual's speech and language skills using applicable diagnostic materials and tools. Being a Speech and Language Pathologist develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials. Establishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating, and counseling. Additionally, Speech and Language Pathologist completes required documentation to record assessment and progress. Collaborates with physicians, family members, and other clinical providers to provide effective therapies. May direct support staff in assisting with treatment. Requires a master's degree in speech pathology. Requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Speech and Language Pathologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

    • Provide appropriate screening and evaluation services to identify speech and language handicapped students.
    • Assess and diagnose language, voice, articulation, and fluency impairment.
    • Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of students with speech, language and  hearing deficits, utilizing appropriate caseload selection, scheduling, follow-up, and dismissal procedures.
    • Lead social skills groups.
    • Assist and guide parents, teachers, and other professionals in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech, language, and hearing impairments.
    • Provide Supervision and Assistance to Speech-Language Pathology Assistants.
    • Submit Medicaid documentation.
    • Obtain physicians orders for service.
    • Serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members regarding speech and language development.
    • Maintain thorough records for the individual student receiving speech, language, and hearing services (including permission forms, test records, diagnostic and final reports, and other records as deemed necessary).
    • Maintain general records containing information appropriate to the compilation of Aberdeen School District, state, and federal reports for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requirements.
    • Meet all deadlines associate with Special Education regulations and IEP processes.
    • Attend all placement meetings for students entering or continuing in the speech/language and hearing program and assist in writing the IEP.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education/Building Principal/Speech-Language Coordinator.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Education Level:
    Master’s degree in an approved speech pathology program and a valid South Dakota Speech-Language Pathology license.
     
    Experience Desired:
    Experience in the field of speech/language pathology desired.
     
    Clearances:
    Employment is contingent upon a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, paid for by the applicant.
