Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home jobs in Boulder, CO

Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home assesses and treats speech and language disorders and impairments in a nursing home or long term care setting. Conducts patient evaluation of speech and language skills using applicable diagnostic materials and tools. Being a Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials. Establishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating and counseling the patient. Additionally, Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home documents assessment and patient progress. Collaborates with physicians, family members, and other clinical providers. May direct support staff in assisting with treatment. Ensures that treatment aligns with patient needs and is within the parameters set by the payer. Requires a master's degree in speech pathology or equivalent. Requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and may require a state license. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.     • Provides services within the scope of practice as defined by the state laws governing the practice of speech therapy, in accordance with the plan of care, and in coordination with other members of the health care team.
    • Evaluates the patient's level of function by applying diagnostic and prognostic functional ability tests. Assists the physician in the development of the therapy plan of care.
    • Treats patients to communicate effectively by expressing thoughts according to the patient's condition using acceptable standards of practice.
    • Observes, records, and reports to the supervising nurse and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and changes in the patient's condition.
    • Instructs the patient, the family and/or caregiver and other members of the health care team in areas of speech therapy in which they can participate.

    License Requirements
    • Must be currently licensed in Speech Therapy in the state of practice.
    • Current CPR certification required.
    • Must have a current driver's license and vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation.
