Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home assesses and treats speech and language disorders and impairments in a nursing home or long term care setting. Conducts patient evaluation of speech and language skills using applicable diagnostic materials and tools. Being a Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials. Establishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating and counseling the patient. Additionally, Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home documents assessment and patient progress. Collaborates with physicians, family members, and other clinical providers. May direct support staff in assisting with treatment. Ensures that treatment aligns with patient needs and is within the parameters set by the payer. Requires a master's degree in speech pathology or equivalent. Requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and may require a state license. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Duties:
- Assess and diagnose speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in individuals of children.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to address speech and language goals.
- Provide therapy sessions to clients to improve their speech, language, and communication skills.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as doctors and educators, to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
- Monitor and document client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Provide education and support to clients and their families on speech and language strategies.
