Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home jobs in Stamford, CT
Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home assesses and treats speech and language disorders and impairments in a nursing home or long term care setting. Conducts patient evaluation of speech and language skills using applicable diagnostic materials and tools. Being a Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials. Establishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating and counseling the patient. Additionally, Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home documents assessment and patient progress. Collaborates with physicians, family members, and other clinical providers. May direct support staff in assisting with treatment. Ensures that treatment aligns with patient needs and is within the parameters set by the payer. Requires a master's degree in speech pathology or equivalent. Requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and may require a state license. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. - Performing screenings to detect voice, cognition, language, swallowing, and speech disorders.
- Educating patients and family members about speech disorders and causes, including disabilities and traumatic events.
- Keeping detailed records relating to patient conditions, care plans, therapies, and progress.
- Reporting progress and current status to appropriate parties, which may include family members, patients, and medical professionals.
Speech Pathologist Requirements:
- Master’s degree in speech-language pathology.
- Must have CF or CCC certification
- Valid state license or certification.
- Experience with certain conditions or working with specific age groups may be preferred.
- Strong understanding of speech-related conditions, causes, and treatments.
- Excellent coaching and verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers, especially patient and healthcare databases.
- Attentive and caring with the ability to develop individualized education plans (IEPs).
