Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home assesses and treats speech and language disorders and impairments in a nursing home or long term care setting. Conducts patient evaluation of speech and language skills using applicable diagnostic materials and tools. Being a Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials. Establishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating and counseling the patient. Additionally, Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home documents assessment and patient progress. Collaborates with physicians, family members, and other clinical providers. May direct support staff in assisting with treatment. Ensures that treatment aligns with patient needs and is within the parameters set by the payer. Requires a master's degree in speech pathology or equivalent. Requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and may require a state license. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Speech and Language Pathologist - Nursing Home's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.   • Job Summary
    The Speech Language Pathologist is a professional member of the health care team who is responsible for providing direct clinical service in all areas of the Memorial Hospital and Health Care organization to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in individuals throughout the lifespan.
     
    Qualifications
    Education:
    Master of Science or Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology. This individual must possess the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), or be completing a clinical fellowship experience supervised by a ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist. Must be licensed in the state of Indiana. CPR certification required.
     
    Experience:
    A minimum of one year experience following the clinical fellowship experience is preferred. Experience in all areas of communication disorders, including dysphagia, voice, neurological disorders, head and neck cancer, and pediatrics is desired.
     
    Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    The individual must be experienced and knowledgeable in all phases of speech-language pathology. Meets competencies established for this position. The position requires leadership skills exhibited by a high degree of organization, as well as motivational and excellent communication skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patients, families, physicians, clinical staff, as well as patient related departments. A high degree of analytical skill and accuracy is required. Constant judgement, interpretation, assessment and treatment is required. Frequent independent decision of a technical nature are frequently required and can have a major impact on patient care outcomes. Knowledge of universal precautions and proper body mechanics is required. Competence in equipment utilized in patient treatment.
     
    Performance Requirements
    Physical Demands:
    Walks, sits, and stands intermittently. Stooping, bending and lifting are required with moderate physical effort. Proper body mechanics required for moving and lifting of patients as needed. Occasionally required to transport moderately heavy equipment for use during assessment and therapy.
     
    Special Demands:
    The position requires above average communication abilities with independent judgment in an interdisciplinary environment. The position entails a high degree of concentration, analytical and/or creative thinking over extended periods of time.
