Speech and Language Pathology Director plans and directs the operations of an organization's audiology and speech therapy functions to ensure effective operation and compliance with regulatory standards. Designs policies and processes to ensure efficient service delivery and promote best practices. Being an Speech and Language Pathology Director develops and implements long-term strategic plans and objectives for audiology and speech therapy programs in alignment with the organization's overall objectives. Provides leadership and oversight to the development and expansion of programs or service offerings. Additionally, Speech and Language Pathology Director evaluates program design, assessment tools, and treatment protocols and researches advancements in the field. Develops and manages the budget to allocate resources to support staffing, equipment, and other program needs. Monitors operational and financial metrics to measure the achievement of organizational objectives. Negotiates and selects vendor proposals and manages vendors to maintain inventories and adhere to budgets. May require a master's degree in audiology or speech pathology. Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to senior management. The Speech and Language Pathology Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Speech and Language Pathology Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Participates as part of multi-disciplinary team in providing evaluations, ongoing assessments, services and coaching to families and caregivers of children eligible for early intervention.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Demonstrates knowledge in overall child development and intervention strategies for a variety of diagnosis and delays in addition to knowledge of speech and language development and disorders;
    • Demonstrates knowledge and respect for family dynamics and cultural diversity, making appropriate accommodations as necessary;
    • Conducts diagnostic and prescriptive evaluations related to communication, language, speech, pre-linguistic skills, and oral motor skills that include feeding and swallowing;
    • Contributes to IFSP development;
    • Provides direct Early Intervention services to children and their families in their natural environments (home or community settings);
    • Educates and coaches families or caregivers and other team members in therapy strategies, and assists in the integration of these strategies in the home or other natural environment;
    • Assists families and caregivers in areas other than communication, as needed;
    • Collaborates with other team members to ensure quality service delivery and consistency;
    • Participates in Team meeting, documenting updates and information on the Teaming agenda as well as collaborating with team members on Primary Coaching/consultation;
    • Maintains treatment notes and documentation of all services (direct/indirect/consultative);
    • Participates in eligibility determination through evaluations, as well as performs ongoing assessments utilizing the program’s play-based assessment tool;
    • Prepares Quarterly Updates, Evaluation Reports, or contributes to the IFSP plans, as required;
    • Refers the child and family to outside agencies, as necessary;
    • Official work hours are 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M., however, evening hours may be requested in order to meet scheduling demands of families.

    Professional Duties and Responsibilities

    • Continues professional development as necessary to maintain certifications and/or licenses.
    • Participates in required in-services and online trainings per agency and DODD early intervention regulations, including but not limited to: Mandt, CPR/first aid, child abuse recognition and prevention, communicable diseases, evidence based early intervention and primary service provider practices.
    • Assists Privacy Officer to protect confidential information of the individuals served from unauthorized use or disclosure.
    • Maintains physician notification of evaluation, discipline specific evaluation and plans of care as required by State Licensing Board.

    Required Experience:
    • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology (Required).
    • Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology License (Required).
    • Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (Required).
    • Use of private vehicle will be required daily to conduct home visits; Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
    • Employees must provide their own vehicle insurance to meet State Law. Mileage/vehicle wear and tear reimbursement will be provided at a rate established yearly by the Stark County Board of DD in accordance with IRS regulations.
