Overview

The director of speech-language pathology will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the speech language voice and swallowing clinical services within the Department of Otolaryngology Head and neck surgery (ENT) of the Bronx care hospital center system.  Oversight for the rehabilitative services will be shared with the department for rehabilitative medicine.  This person will demonstrate administrative skills, leadership ability, and provide management of all speech related services.  This person will also participate in the day-to-day clinical operations and provide direct clinical care as well as oversee the supervision of speech and language voice and swallowing staff and all technical personnel within thier supervision, all with the goal of delivering quality clinical care to the patients of the Bronx.

Responsibilities

• Provides administrative leadership which includes fiscal responsibility, clinical oversight, strategic planning, and compliance with internal and external regulatory authorities.
• Be responsible for the recruitment, retention, and management of all speech staff.
• Be responsible for maintenance and adherence of current policies and procedures as necessary and provide departmental guidance in speech-language voice and swallowing assessment and rehabilitation.
• Direct the development and participation in clinical and educational programming for speech-language voice and swallow staff as well as nursing staff and medical residents.
• Serves as a liaison with other departments, physicians, and other specialists, and outside agencies.  Supports of the department chairman in implementing clinical research programs and clinical research activities to improve and advance clinical care.
• Participates in the education of speech-language pathology students and serves as a director and instructor of record for their clinical fellowship year as well as any internship programs that department may provide.
• Performs related duties as required by the department chairman.

Qualifications

• Masters degree or doctorate in speech-language pathology
• 5 years of clinical service with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
• Certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology from the American speech language and hearing association
• New York State license and speech-language pathology
• Ability to effectively teach and impart knowledge to subordinate colleagues and staff.
• Ability to problem solve and multitask
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred
