Speech and Language Therapy Supervisor manages the daily operations of an organization's audiology and speech therapy functions. Plans and develops speech therapy programs and evaluates program objectives and results to determine effectiveness. Being an Speech and Language Therapy Supervisor reviews assessment findings, treatment plans, and progress notes to ensure compliance with professional standards and regulations. Monitors inventories and supplies and tracks spending to ensure adherence to departmental budgets. Additionally, Speech and Language Therapy Supervisor implements operational procedures to ensure effective care, promote best practices, and facilitate efficient workflow. Provides professional guidance and oversight to resolve complex cases or issues. Recruits, hires, and manages staff and designs and leads development and training activities. May require a master's degree in audiology or speech pathology. Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a director. The Speech and Language Therapy Supervisor manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be an Speech and Language Therapy Supervisor typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     • Conducts assessment procedures for speech and language pathology. Selects or develops and uses appropriate materials and instrumentation for prevention and intervention.
    • Develops and implements a setting appropriate plan of care with measurable and achievable goals that meet patients need. Collaborates with patients and relevant others in the planning process.
    • Interprets, integrates, and synthesizes all information to develop a treatment plan and make appropriate recommendations for intervention.
    • Evaluates and implements intervention plans utilizing activities that designed to improve the functional and emotional needs of the patient/family. Modifies approach in response to patient behavior and performance.
    • Utilizes standardized outcomes measures/testing and instrumental evaluations in a uniform manner to ensure functional performance is accurately reflected.
    • Completes documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
    • Collaborates with patient, family and significant others throughout the rehabilitation process and provides education/family training as necessary.
    • Clearly communicates patient performance, change in status, activity/diet recommendations, with the medical team and makes appropriate recommendations for the next level of care.
