    The Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for an Associate Director (Full-time, Exempt) in the Undergraduate Programs Office. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director will be responsible for oversight of the office’s overall operations, serving more than 8,000 undergraduate students and comprising more than thirty full-time staff members. Operations include academic advising, enrollment management, and student success programming, and the position supervises professional, support, and student staff. This position also advises a small caseload of students and teaches courses in the Haslam Leaders seminar series.


    Responsibilities:

    • Operations:
      • Oversee overall operations for the Undergraduate Programs Office
      • Manage scheduling and staffing for office
      • Develop both short-term and long-term plans for the delivery of high-quality, timely academic advising, enrollment management, and retention programming.
      • Determine team and collateral assignments for professional advisors.
      • Provide oversight, hiring, and training of student worker staff.
      • Develop, lead, coordinate, and execute staff development activities
      • Oversee professional development planning and funding for the office.
      • Review assessment data and implement data-driven decisions.
    • Supervision & Leadership:
      • Lead, manage, and coordinate all aspects of hiring/search processes, and make hiring recommendations for the Undergraduate Programs Office.
      • Directly supervise professional advising staff, administrative staff, and student workers.
      • Provide oversight for supervision, goal setting, and performance evaluation.
      • Provide guidance, leadership, and mentorship in academic advising development and quality customer service.
      • Assist in the resolution of issues, problems, and concerns.
      • Evaluate staff performance through check-ins and annual performance reviews.
      • Serve on directors’ team for undergraduate programs and lead various office functions and operations as needed.
      • Contribute to the development of department strategic plan, goals, and initiatives.
    • College/Campus Service & Outreach:
      • Serve on college and campus committees related to academic advising, advising policies, professional development, etc.
      • Represent the Undergraduate Programs Office at admissions/recruitment events, new student orientations, open house events, and student engagement activities.
      • Coordinate the college's commencement ceremony, in collaboration with Executive Director.
    • Academic Advising:
      • Guide students in the exploration of their goals, interests, strengths, values, and concerns through positive open-ended questions and intentional advising strategies
      • Educate students about curricular requirements, academic standards, and academic milestones related to the business degree
      • Collaborate with students throughout their undergraduate experience in developing academic plans that meet goals and future aspirations.
      • Communicate effectively with assigned advisees and explain university and college academic policies and procedures
      • Maintain accurate and confidential records
      • Facilitate the petitioning process for students pursuing curriculum exceptions
    • Teach sections of the college's Haslam Leaders series courses (BUAD 100 and/or 210). Prepare lesson plans, manage peer mentors, and evaluate students' performance.

    Qualifications:

    • Required Qualifications and Experience:
      • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience within higher education
      • Experience in supervision of professional staff
      • Master’s degree
    • Desired Qualifications and Experience:
      • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience within academic advising
      • Teaching experience at the collegiate level
