    The Director of Sponsored Programs is vital support to the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science’s initiatives to enhance research opportunities, increase external support for institutional priorities and needs, and facilitate activities and collaborations within the University and with external partners. This position assists the Dean, Faculty, Principal Investigators (PIs), Project Directors (PDs) and others with various activities related to the identification of external funding, development and preparation of proposals, the submission of proposals, and the submission and management of grants and contracts. This position works closely and in conjunction with the University’s Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs and the Director of Finance for Grants and Sponsored Programs.

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Potential supervision of clerical staff, graduate assistants and others.

    You Will:

    • Assist Dean and/or Associate Dean by providing primary or secondary support as assigned in all aspects of external sponsored projects including grants, contracts and research agreements.
    • Identifying potential sources of external funding appropriate for the College.
    • Leading proposal writing teams and writing proposals or assisting faculty with sections of proposals.
    • Educating and coaching faculty on proposal development and grant management.
    • Facilitating various types of contracts such as cost-reimbursable, fixed-price, fee-for-service and research agreements with government, industry and non-profit corporations.
    • Initiating and participating in discussions with municipal, state, federal, foundation and other potential funders and collaborators, as appropriate, to assist HCLC administrators, PIs and PDs in order to ensure the most positive and timely outcomes.
    • Developing various types of budgets associated with external funding or special projects.
    • Preparing and processing internal/external technical documents.
    • Assisting with funder compliance and working with university staff in policy development regarding funder compliance.
    • Tracking HCLC grant and contract activity and preparing reports.
    • All other aspects of proposal or contract preparation that may be assigned.
    • Assisting with post-award activities such as performance report filing, meeting funder compliance requirements, etc.
    • Providing direct assistance to PI’s and PDs on funded projects/initiatives.

    You Have:

    The Director of Sponsored Programs Administration for the Henry C. Lee College is required to have extensive experience in identifying potential external funding sources, the preparation and submission of grant/contracts including narratives, preparation of budgets and other supporting documents, and the processing and submission of grant/contract applications. Given the focus area of the College, extensive experience in securing external funding from justice and law enforcement related funding sources and sponsor agencies, is highly desired, particularly federal USDOJ, Dept. of State, Dept. of Homeland Security, and state counterparts. A full understanding of the special conditions and post-award requirements of these departments in particular is highly desirable. Familiarity with other related - funding sources is desirable, such as HHS, NIH, NSF, private foundations, etc. Experience with Uniform Guidance and other federal grant compliance is expected. Experience in the development of contracts and other forms of agreements is desirable. Superior document preparation skills are required. The incumbent must have the interpersonal skills required to deal with a wide variety of individuals including faculty, staff, students, constituent/partner organizations and professionals from outside the university. A Bachelor’s Degree is required for this position. Previous experience working with a justice agency is highly desirable.
