  • Summary:

    This position requires both providing direct services to high school students as well as supervision counselors and mentors. The goals of YWCA York youth programs include providing the highest quality experiences to foster and facilitate students to remain enrolled in high school through graduation, to avoid violence and risky behavior, and continue their education beyond high school. The Director plans and directs enrichment programs for students as outlined in our youth programs while adhering to YWCA York Policies & Procedures.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities Youth Programs:

    • Will support the development and implementation of a new evidence based program to support youth through high school and college entry.

    • Supervises the recruitment and enrollment process of high school enrichment programs, neighborhood youth ambassador programs and summer camp programs.

    • Maintains a professional relationship with the youth and acts as a positive role model at all times.

    • Remain available to students and staff during program times to include evenings and weekends.

    • Provides direct supervision to other youth employees including counselors and mentors, including time sheet management, approving invoices, team-building, identifying staff development opportunities, training, outcomes reporting and following program requirements with fidelity.

    • Responsible to adhere to program budget and grant requirements.

    • Assists in program develop for all youth programs while integrating resources and facilitating collaboration to benefit the overall program.

    • Assists in the development and implementation of program policies in conjunction with supervisor.

    • Utilizes evidence-based models for development, educational, and service learning activities in conjunction with community members and resources to supplement all aspects of the youth programs.

    • Ensures the collection of necessary data to monitor progress of students and achievement of program goals. This includes weekly attendance records on participants and quarterly report cards. Ensures precise monitoring and reporting of program activities and outcomes.

    • Prepares timely reports and statistics and submits to supervisor for review.

    • Organizes special events and college tours with the help of other staff.

    • Develops and maintains a professional relationship with the City of York School District, program collaborators, volunteers, mentors, youth and their families.

    • Networks with service providers in the community to bring resources to YWCA York’s Youth programs and to promote the program to the community.

    • Provides referral services to families as needed and oversees referrals made by staff.

    • Ensures all programs adhere to the YWCA York mission, core values, policies and funding guidelines.

    • Other duties as assigned.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities Camp Program

    • Plans and implements direct service to youth program participants throughout high school. Direct service hours include activities focused on development, education, and service learning and may be in a group setting. Direct service will include evening work and some weekends.
    • Plans and implements annual college tours for Students.
    • Works with school district to facilitate collection of records for all students in youth programs.
    • Research and follow current trends in the ACA, Camp industry. Assist in grant applications and grant reporting. Help fund development to research and contact possible funding sources.
    • Facilitate the supervision of Camp programs. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    • Provide statistical data monthly to the fund development dept to assist in maintenance of grants and UW funding.
    • Must assure all Department of Human Services licensing requirements are met, including maintaining staff and children's files, ratios, and facility compliance.
    • Maintain an open and positive relationship with Camp families and ensure their program expectations are being met.
    • Assist in training and supporting the implementation of camp activities to meet the needs of the children and the community.
    • Conduct orientation and training for all camp staff.
    • Strategically works with CCYPO to design a plan for on-going growth and improved quality of services to camp children.
    • Assist with preparation of publicity to promote activities such as brochures, employee recruitment, educational programs or other services.
    • Play an active role in promoting all YWCA offerings and programs and services.
    • Assist in the preparation of the camp budget and oversee management of expenses related to Camp Cann-edi-on. Develop a budget with support of CCYPO and CFO.
    • Participate on the Camp Committee and assist with strategic planning.
    • Explore internal synergies with other YWCA programs to utilize camp.
    • Oversee the hiring of camp counselors, lifeguards, and cook. Maintain staff files to remain in compliance with DHS licensing standards and YWCA York personnel policies/procedures. Support staff on an ongoing basis.
    • Oversee and facilitate the recruitment and enrollment of children in Camp Cann-edi-on programs and maintain files in accordance with DHS licensing requirements and capacity.
    • Ensure that staff receives required trainings for all camp programs. Conduct staff orientation for all new and returning counselors.
    • Oversee the completion of daily, weekly and monthly program reports, weekly enrollment reports, parent surveys, and monthly marketing reports on a timely manner.
    • Support staff in providing monthly calendar or newsletter with an outline of specific activities. Coordinate Orientation Nights, Overnights, and Family Nights with cook, and other necessary staff.
    • Support staff in focusing on preventative behavior strategies and discussing camper’s behavioral or learning problems with staff, and encourage learning experiences by reviewing evaluations on campers as needed.
    • Promote YWCA services to increase community awareness. Publicize all programs at Camp Cann-Edi on and encourages community rentals.
    • Evaluate programming at Camp and manage scheduled events.
    • Maintain a professional relationship with campers and act as a role model for expected behavior.


    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Science, Education, Recreation or other related field or high school diploma and 3 or more years of related work experience preferred.
    • Five or more years of supervisory experience preferred.
    • Five or more years of experience working with youth preferred.
    • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

    • Excellent ability to exercise good judgment.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet usage.
    • Must have a valid PA driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle and current auto insurance.
    • Proven ability to relate to people of all ages, races, gender and socioeconomic backgrounds.
