Staff Nurse - RN - Emergency Room provides professional nursing care to assigned patients in the emergency room. Triages each patient and determines priority of care based on physical, psychological, and social needs. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Emergency Room records patient histories, performs various diagnostic tests, administers medications, and develops patient care plans in conjunction with other medical professionals. Assists physicians during examinations and emergency procedures, operating and monitoring medical equipment as necessary. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Emergency Room observes patients' progress, records observations in patient medical record, and updates attending physician directly when necessary. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Staff Nurse - RN - Emergency Room's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.     Position Summary:

    • The RN has multiple roles and functions including caregiver, decision-maker, client advocate, manager, rehabilitator, comforter, communicator, and teacher.
    • The functions include assessment of the nursing needs of the patient, initiation of the plan of care of nurse action, implementation of the plan of care and the evaluation of the process, by use of the nursing process.
    • The Standards of Practice set forth by the professional nursing associations provide guidelines for the competent, safe and professional practice.
    • The RN promotes the dignity and quality of the nursing care given to the patient


    Job Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Assist with activities of daily living i.e., bathing, skin care, dressing, feeding, ambulating, transporting, and bed changing.
    • Take and record vital signs, finger stick, blood sugar and I&O’s, apply ice bags, aqua K pads, and maintain continuous bladder irrigations.
    • Complete or review worksheet of assignments for patient care within 30 minutes of shift change.
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of patients served in his/her assigned service area.
    • Obtains and documents vital signs as instructed per nurse.

    Qualifications:

    Requirements:

    • Current RN licensure from the State of Oklahoma required

    • ADN required; BSN preferred

    • BLS required

    • ALS, PALS, NIH Stroke Scale and NRP required within six (6) months of employment in Emergency Department

    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and PEARS are encouraged within two (2) years of hire

    • Two to three years’ experience in Med/Surg, Critical Care, or Emergency Medical Services preferred

    • Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM/De-Escalation) completed within six (6) months of hire

    • Ability to tolerate high stress levels and maintain a positive behavior

    • Good verbal and written communication skills
    • Basic computer skills required
