Staff Nurse - RN - Emergency Room provides professional nursing care to assigned patients in the emergency room. Triages each patient and determines priority of care based on physical, psychological, and social needs. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Emergency Room records patient histories, performs various diagnostic tests, administers medications, and develops patient care plans in conjunction with other medical professionals. Assists physicians during examinations and emergency procedures, operating and monitoring medical equipment as necessary. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Emergency Room observes patients' progress, records observations in patient medical record, and updates attending physician directly when necessary. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Staff Nurse - RN - Emergency Room's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.     Schedule: 7p - 7a SATURDAY NIGHTS

    RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, and adjust nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

    • Perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessment as per policy. (Pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population).
    • Use triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients.
    • Assess and reassess pain. Utilize appropriate pain management techniques. Educate patient and family regarding pain management.
    • Monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.
    • Identify dysrhythmias and treat appropriately.
    • Perform waived lab testing in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
    • Interpret the results of waived lab tests; take appropriate action on results.
    • Ensure correct medication administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.
    • Prepare, hang, monitor and discontinue IV fluids.
    • Prepare, administer, monitor and discontinue respiratory treatments.
    • Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of changes.
    • Assist physicians with procedures.
    • Communicate with Emergency Physicians about changes in patient’s status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies.
    • Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness of learning; includes family in teaching, as appropriate.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
