Investigates possible incidences of infection and implements remedial action. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Infection Control works with the infection control committee to establish infection control standards and procedures, and educates staff on how to prevent and control infections. Informs the appropriate state and county organizations of any reportable infections and diseases. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Infection Control typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires a valid state RN license. May require CIC certification. Responsibilities of an (RN) Infection Preventionist/Infection Control Nurse:
• Identify patients’ care requirements, focus on their needs and act on them.
• Nurture a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.
• Resolve or report on patients’ needs or problems.
• Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine diagnostic checks (monitor pulse, blood pressure and temperature, provide drugs and injections, etc.)
• Monitor and record patient’s condition and document provided care services.
• Treat medical emergencies.
• Administer workloads.
• Follow care regulations and standards.
• Work within and cooperate with a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications of an (RN) Infection Preventionist/Infection Control Nurse:
• Proven nursing experience and experience as an Infection Control RN.
• Familiarity with professional and technical emerging knowledge.
• Problem solving skills and ability to multi-task.
• Compassionate with good communication skills.
• Excellent teamwork skills.
• BS or diploma in nursing.
