Registered Nurse-Triage Area II
POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse, Chemotherapy administers a variety of chemotherapy treatment regimens safely and efficiently in a private oncology practice setting. The RN, Chemotherapy works collaboratively with multiple physicians within the practice to meet each patient’s individual need throughout their chemotherapy treatments.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides treatment to patients according to physicians’ orders by preparing and infusing chemotherapy and other parenteral medications
-a. Follows standards set by QOPI to ensure all patient information required for treatment is in place prior to start of each treatment.
-b. Follows ONC/OSHA guidelines for proper administration/disposal of chemotherapy.
-c. Maintains proper use of personal protection equipment such as gown and gloves when mixing and administering chemotherapy.
-d. Uses proper technique in establishing venous accesses by peripheral or central line.
EDUCATION: High School Diploma/Associates Degree/Bachelor Degree
Licenses – Registered Nurse license issued by State of Pennsylvania
PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE: 1 to 3 years
REQUIRED SKILLS: In order of importance, list specific skills or talents that a qualified incumbent should possess (i.e., management of large staff, computer applications, subject knowledge, etc.)
1. Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of prior experience (preferred) (Training is available) in nursing focusing on oncology, chemotherapy, and IV experience.
2. Knowledge of disease processes, pharmacology and lab data
3. Knowledge of chemotherapeutic drugs (administration, dosing, side effects and regulations)
4. Knowledge of oncologic diagnoses and disease processes
5. Prior experience and understanding of OSHA guidelines
6. Proficiency with computer systems (i.e. Microsoft Office, electronic medical records, etc.)
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment
8. Excellent organizational and time management skills; within a fast-paced environment, required
