Staff Nurse - RN - Pediatrics - Home Care provides professional nursing care to assigned pediatric patients in a home care environment. Records patient histories, performs various diagnostic tests, administers medications, and develops patient home care plans in conjunction with other medical professionals. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Pediatrics - Home Care performs examinations and prescribed procedures, operating and monitoring medical equipment as necessary. Observes patients' progress and records observations in patient medical records. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Pediatrics - Home Care promotes patients' independence by teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires a valid state RN license.     Job Summary:

    The home care nurse(RN)’s responsibilities include performing patient visits and monitoring their conditions, conducting tests, and writing reports for the physician. You should be able to address all the caregivers’ concerns and make appropriate adjustments to the patients’ in-home management plan.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Traveling to patients’ homes and managing their care plans according to physicians’ instructions.
    • Administering medication and insulin, and completing blood pressure, glucose, urine, and stool tests.
    • Inspecting wounds, changing dressings, and handling personal grooming and hygiene.
    • Testing for muscle weakness, bedsores, and any signs of infection.
    • Listening to the concerns of family members and answering their questions.
    • Educating caregivers and family on the aftercare or ongoing care of the patient.
    • Providing suggestions for improved healthcare to physicians and family members of the patient.
    • Monitoring patient recovery and compiling reports for the physician.
    • Keeping abreast of developments in healthcare and attending workshops and lectures as required.
    • Collaborating with doctors and other healthcare professionals to develop improved diets and healthcare plans for patients.

    Requirements:

    Experience:

    • One (1) year experience as an RN in a clinical care setting.
    • Preferred, Home health experience.

    Skills:

    • Nursing skills as defined as generally accepted standards of practice.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
    • Demonstrates proven decision making skills.
    • If required to make visits, Hepatitis profile.
    • Must read, write and comprehend English.

    Education:

    • Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing Program.
    • Preferred, BSN.

    Licensure/Certification:

    • Current driver’s license in good standing. It is the responsibility of the employee to renew their driver’s license before it expires in order to continue employment.
    • Reliable transportation and auto liability insurance.
    • Current State professional license as an RN in any/all applicable states.
    • Current CPR.

    On-going employment as an RN requires maintenance of a valid RN license in the state which the nurse practices in and a valid CPR certificate at all times. It is the responsibility of the employee to renew these both before they expire in order to continue employment.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged standing/walking required.
    • The ability to lift/transfer up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and patient needs, make quick decisions and allocate resources under stressful conditions.
    • Meet patient/family individualized psycho social needs.
    • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

    Environmental/Working Conditions:

    • Works in patient’s home in various conditions.
    • Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and infectious diseases.
    • Some exposure to unpleasant weather; PRN emergency call.
    • Ability to travel locally and work a flexible schedule.
