Staff Nurse - RN - Renal Dialysis provides professional nursing care to assigned patients with kidney conditions that require dialysis treatment.     SRD is seeking a RN to work in conjunction with the Nurse Manager to provide professional nursing services to renal failure patients. This service will employ continuous quality improvement techniques to meet the needs and exceed the expectations of all customers. This position may float and travel to all of our clinics as needed. Drive time and mileage will be reimbursed.

    The following statements are intended to describe the major elements and requirements of the position and should not be taken as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of individuals assigned to this position. These essential functions are based on standards devised by the American Nephrology Nurse Association.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure the knowledge base of providing clinical management to dialysis patients continues to grow.
    • Accurately assesses patient condition pre, during, and post dialysis treatment according to standards of care.
    • Notifies appropriate personnel of acute situations immediately.
    • Performs venipuncture for IV, blood sample and initiation of dialysis with accuracy and using aseptic technique. Serves as a resource to PCTs.
    • Administers medication accurately – following CDC guidelines.
    • Administers blood and blood products according to standards or care already established.
    • Addresses and supports cultural practices as long as they do not harm or interfere with the planned course of medical therapy.
    • Collects laboratory specimens correctly
    • Promptly responds to patients' requests within 1-2 minutes.
    • Accompanies patients to other facilities, as needed
    • Pursues the acquisition of supplies through appropriate channels. Understands ordering process even if delegated to another care team member.
    • Checks flow sheet and chart for accuracy and completion. Ensures all charges are signed off and accurate in the EMR.
    • Carries out all duties as primary nurse to assigned patients by completing patient education requirements and assisting Nurse Manager as requested for other documentation requirements.
    • Maintains current CPR certification. Acts as a leader during adverse occurrence situations.
    • Willingly assists with CQI process as directed by nurse manager.
    • Accurately enters physician orders in the EMR and carries through with them.
    • Works in a collaborative fashion with multidisciplinary team; communicates well with other members of the team to attain short and long-term goals of the patients POC.
    • Encourages new ideas for improved outcomes, investigates complaints and attempts rectification.
    • Knowledgeable in modification of treatment if necessary. Knowledgeable of protocol to be implemented and does this in a timely manner.
    • Assists physician with procedures considering patient ed., patient prep, legal issues, and obtaining supplies.
    • Documents all pertinent information regarding the patient treatment record in the EMR. Schedules clinic visits and follows up on requests from care team documenting appropriately
    • Compiles medication list, labs, and treatment records, via the electronic medical record.
    • Assists with orientation of new personnel or students in responsible and friendly manner.
    • Functions in a clinical supervisory role.
    • Delegates dialysis related tasks appropriately to the PCT, LPN, or Unit Clerk.
    • Assumes responsibility for outcome of tasks which are delegated
    • Evaluates outcomes of those duties or tasks, which are delegated to other personnel. Making adjustments or intervenes as needed to achieve the desired outcomes.
    • Assumes role as a preceptor to all new staff.
    • Performs assigned duties of Nurse Manager in their absence.
    • Follows corporate policy for attendance and punctuality.
    • Assumes personal responsibility to be at work when scheduled and tries to find replacement when necessary.
    • Practices appropriate hygiene.
    • Adheres to dress code.
    • Receives, places and transfers telephone calls using proper identification and courtesy.
    • Maintains confidentiality according to personnel policy by following all HIPAA codes for health care information.
    • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to customers' rights as identified within our facility.
    • Conveys concise, accurate, pertinent information in a timely, constructive and appropriate manner concerning patient information and patient needs.
    • Identifies and communicates all opportunities for improvement to appropriate team members, not to others
    • Seeks out appropriate employee for clarifications of questionable situations or to gain information.
    • Promotes a positive corporate image verbally and non-verbally to all associates and to all customers of SRD, LC
    • Recognizes and identifies the needs of internal and external customers. responds accordingly
    • Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and respect in order to maintain good rapport with others.
    • Promotes a constructive/positive atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to cooperate with and assist team associates and internal and external customers.

    Dialysis Nurse Requirements:

    • Bachelor's or associate's degree in nursing.
    • State license to practice nursing.
    • Certification through the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) is advantageous.
    • Proven work experience as a nurse.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is advantageous.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and observation skills.
    • The ability to operate or learn to operate dialysis machines.
    • The ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
    • Patient and compassionate.
