Staff Nurse - RN, Sr. - Medical Management leads the coordination between care providers and plan members with the goal of maximizing member benefits while managing costs. Oversees the assessment of medical necessity of procedures and/or admissions, conducts pre-certification or authorization, and ensures compliance with established guidelines. Being a Staff Nurse - RN, Sr. - Medical Management assists members in appeals for denied services. Interprets benefits and guides members to choose to the appropriate providers, projects and resources. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN, Sr. - Medical Management applies the medical and reimbursement policies within the claim adjudication process. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Nursing. Typically reports to a manager. Requires RN license. To be a Staff Nurse - RN, Sr. - Medical Management typically requires more than 5 years of related experience.   • Provide all duties of nursing services. Follow Nursing policy and procedures regarding detoxification and other Nursing Services. Carry out physician's orders and protocols as directed. Participate in Performance Improvement and Infection Control activities as indicated.

    Know and abide by the general provisions of 42 CFR Part 2, "Confidentiality of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Patient Records", and 45 CFR "Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act." This position has unrestricted access to patient identifying and patient health information,

    KEY FUNCTIONS:

    o Complete and document an accurate and comprehensive Nursing Assessment within twenty-four (24) hours of patient's admission.

    o Assess acuity of withdrawal and intervene according to Physician's policy, procedures, and protocol.

    o Establish and maintain rapport with patients and their family members.

    o Monitor vital signs (B/P, Pulse, Respirations) and administer medications when ordered by physician.

    o Perform venipuncture on patients without harm.

    o Administer P.O. medications, IM injections and IV medications, including IV fluids.

    o Transcribe physician orders, order medication and be accountable for controlled medications.

    o Perform routine monitoring and testing, e.g., blood glucose monitoring, audiometric screening, EKG.

    o Provide health/medical education to patients and family members as appropriate.

    o Participate in timely, accurate patient record documentation pertaining to nursing assessments, treatment planning, treatment rendered, patient's response to and progress in treatment, physicians' orders, to include "repeat" orders, and other standard documentation activities.

    o Participate in Clinical Team Staffing and staff meetings as appropriate.

    o Conduct regular performance improvement monitoring and evaluation activities and serve on Task Groups as needed.

    o Practice the Board of Nursing Standards of Practice.

    o Maintain an environment conducive to well-being, safety, and provide health teaching and counseling to patients and staff.

    o Must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance, must not appear impaired or disoriented, but rather must present coherent and articulate speech, kept appearance, alert, oriented, and responsive to patients' needs and concerns.

    o Regular attendance.

    o Must be able to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers, managers, clients, and prospective clients.

    o Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness to perform the job in a safe manner.

    o Perform urine drug screens as necessary.

    o Other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    o Graduate of approved School of Nursing, current State license (RN-preferred) (LPN acceptable)

    o Two years' experience in chemical dependency treatment preferred.

    o Experience with adults and adolescents preferred.

    o Must be able to continuously sit from ½ to 4 hours per 8-hour shift.

    o Must be able to see 20/40 corrected in each eye and ear (hearing aid acceptable).

    o Must be capable of administering First Aid and CPR.

    o Walk within the facility approximately 1 mile per 8-hour shift.

    o Must be emotionally and physically capable of functioning in stressful situations. If recovering, must have two (2) years continuous abstinence.
