Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant provides direct patient care to surgical patients throughout the perioperative period. Assists surgeon during surgical procedures by positioning skin preparation, providing wound exposure, performing tissue dissection, suturing, and other surgical tasks. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant administers medications and IV treatments as necessary. Participates in discharge planning and counsels patients and caregivers on appropriate post-operative care. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR). Requires Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Duties included
- Provide direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients' conditions
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians
- Monitor patients' vital signs and ensure their comfort and safety
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans
- Document patient information accurately
- Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain aseptic technique during procedures
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Experience working with doctors and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care
- Familiarity with Sonography procedures and equipment
- Proficiency in using electronic health record systems (e.g., Athenahealth)
- Ability to perform aseptic techniques during procedures
- Knowledge of infant care, family planning, gastric lavage, and alimentation
