Position Overview:

The Surgical First Assistant will play a crucial role in assisting during orthopedic total joint replacement surgeries. Your expertise and attention to detail will contribute to the success and safety of each operation.

This position can be part-time or PRN and will be on-site in the surgery center located in Charlottesville, VA.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Prepares operating rooms for surgery, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available
• Assists surgeons during surgical procedures by preparing the incision site, stopping bleeding, holding retractors, passing instruments & other items, and closing the incision
• Maintains a sterile field throughout the procedure, following strict infection control protocols
• Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and provide assistance accordingly
• Handles specimens for laboratory analysis as directed by the surgeon
• Assists with patient positioning and ensure their comfort and safety throughout the procedure

Qualifications:

• High School graduate or GED certificate recipient
• Previous experience working in a surgical setting
• Knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and procedures
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle stressful situations with professionalism
• Physical stamina to stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least two years of work experience in an ambulatory surgery setting or acute hospital providing direct patient care

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $43.00 - $47.00 per hour

• Day shift
• Monday to Friday
