Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant provides direct patient care to surgical patients throughout the perioperative period. Assists surgeon during surgical procedures by positioning skin preparation, providing wound exposure, performing tissue dissection, suturing, and other surgical tasks. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant administers medications and IV treatments as necessary. Participates in discharge planning and counsels patients and caregivers on appropriate post-operative care. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR). Requires Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Position summary:

A professional caregiver who plans, provides, and directs patient care and teaching, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with patient care standards and physician orders. He/she acts as a liaison between physicians, patient and family, and collaborates with other health care members. He/she assists in the orientation process of new personnel, and may participate in health center and department committees. The staff nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age groups according to specific chronological age, developmental age, and/or psycho-social maturity.

Manages, coordinates, and tracks a quality lactation program and staff development. The Lactation Specialist guides and mentors other OB Staff members in educational matters and serves as consultant to all departments across the organization for services rendered to perinatal mothers, specifically lactation services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
-
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and current licensure by Ohio State Board of Nursing

Required length and type of experience:-
Previous maternity nursing experience required

A minimum of five (5) years experience educating patient in Lactation Services.

Required licensure, certification or registry:-
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Current license by the Ohio State Board of Nursing.

CPR certification required.
-
ACLS preferred.
-
If applicable, ACLS certification for Critical Care and Emergency Services required.

PALS required in Emergency Services.
