Sterile Supply Attendant sterilizes, cleans, wraps, stores and distributes supplies, instruments, and equipment used in patient care. Disinfects equipment requiring decontamination or sterilization. Being a Sterile Supply Attendant prepares supplies and equipment for use during patient procedures. Operates autoclaves and other equipment to sterilize instruments and equipment. Additionally, Sterile Supply Attendant inspects and assembles instruments, equipment, trays, and packs. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Sterile Supply Attendant possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. High School Diploma or equivalent. One (1) year experience Sterile Processing Department or Operating Room. Knowledge of instrument identification of many specialties, autoclaves, washer, sterilizer and ultrasonic cleaners, universal precautions. Skilled in performing complete task for different specialties and requires memory for details and resourcefulness.
Ability to have physical and mental stamina to work rapidly and with accuracy over long periods and to withstand the strain of pace and the mental and physical strain of the Operating Room. Demonstrate a willingness to work with the realization that errors and incompetence may have serious consequences for the patient, and be willing to accept responsibility and the conscientiousness to perform tasks.
Sterile Supply personnel assists in cleaning and care organization for instruments and instrument trays and all special equipment. Organizes and is knowledgeable of all instruments and instrument trays and how to assemble, arrange and maintain these trays. Performs additional duties as delegated.
