- Performs assigned support activities to assure a clean, safe, and efficient laboratory, which may include answering the telephone, clerical duties such as filing, and organization/cleaning tasks
- Maintains appropriate inventory levels and stock rooms for the laboratory supplies, reagents, and other materials
- Performs various support activities which may include organizing stock rooms and supply areas, supply or reagent distribution duties both within and outside laboratory direct areas, and/or coordinating record storage
- Performs, or provides-assistance with, acquisition/ordering, delivery, and follow-up for laboratory supplies, reagents and other materials
- Participates in, and has knowledge of, laboratory and hospital Performance Improvement activities, including evaluation of new equipment and/or procedures or methods
- Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines, referring to supervisor as necessary
- Adheres to Compliance Plan and the rules and regulations of applicable regulatory authorities; protects confidentiality of patient information and results at all-times
- Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Employee job duties may include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designed secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit
Qualifications
Education and Experience Required
High School Grad or Equivalent
Knowledge and Experience Strongly Preferred
- Demonstrate skills and aptitudes related to the laboratory process performed in department or work area assigned
- Ability to read text and numbers in English, with demonstrated ability to comprehend, measure, reason, match and problem solve, and exercise judgement under supervision
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form in English with persons of varied backgrounds in respectful, effective, and professional manner
- Ability to learn and apply computer related applications and programs, including using electronic keyboards and other peripheral devices
- Mature judgement and the ability to handle confidential information within facility guidelines and applicable regulations
- Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
