Transfer Enrollmnt Counselor
  • Andrews University

  • The Transfer Enrollment Counselor builds relationships, processes applications and recruits transfer students from other colleges and universities. Serves in the undergraduate admissions office to see transfer students and other non-freshman student types through the admissions and registration processes. Schedules transfer recruiting trips and events. Participates with visits and events on campus for prospective students.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor’s degree required. Prior experience in enrollment office settings and admissions and international student admissions processes preferred, or in positions requiring organizational skills, analysis, customer service and interaction.

    REQUIRED SKILLS

    Must possess excellent skills in building relationships, speaking and writing English, planning and organization, database use and Microsoft Office, and leadership of admission and enrollment processes and student workers.

    Highly desired: Spanish fluency, teaching/writing experience, international experience, experience with non-traditional students.


    Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

    Duties and responsibilities

    Recruitment (35%)

    • Schedules and attends visits to regional transfer fairs

    • Maintains a regular presence at area community colleges according to Andrews University agreements

    • Provides general advice about Andrews University and connecting to our Student Visit office regarding campus visit opportunities

    • Works in conjunction with departments to plan and hold transfer open houses on campus

    • Seeks opportunities to communicate directly with local community college students

    • Develops ongoing relationships with students and parents

    • Manages prospective transfer student requests and develops ongoing relationships, providing information on academic, scholarship, extracurricular opportunities, etc.

    • Participates in various marketing and recruitment activities


    Admissions (35%)

    • Works as back up for other Admissions Counselors in helping with processing and serving student needs

    • Serves as advisor to guest students

    • Counsels and pre-advises degree-seeking students on various majors

    • Participates in specific admissions activities as they relate to the needs of transfer and guest students

    • Becomes familiar with the various department admissions requirements and disseminates materials and information to prospects

    • Knowledgeable about campus departments

    • Coordinates with the Academic Records office to assist in directing students to appropriate information regarding transfer credits with general articulation information (i.e., website charts)

    • Processes transfer, exchange, continuing, guest, CIEP, and Adventist Colleges Abroad (ACA) applications

    • Actively works to ensure data integrity

    • Assists with the development and updating of the admissions training manual

    • Actively participates in campus committees and presentations

    • Acts as recording secretary for the Undergraduate Admissions Committee as a non-voting member


    Communication (15%)

    • Provides pre-advising support, as appropriate and needed, for transfer students, previously attended students and those planning to transfer in the future

    • Manages the communications that come through the transfers@andrews.edu

    • Manages the communication to applicants through e-mails, letters and phone calls about transferring to Andrews University

    • Communicates with prospective students who have chosen not to come to Andrews University with information about how to transfer in the future

    • Communicates with students who are accepted to Andrews University but want to come in the future

    • Assist with developing and implementing the communication plan for transfer students

    • Provide prospective students and families with general financial information and further direct them to the appropriate financial advisor


    Enrollment (15%)

    • Assists with First Stop that is done in Enrollment

    • Manages the transfer portion of the Orientation Week of Fall & Spring Semesters

    • Assists as assigned with Preview Weekends and other enrollment events

    • Actively participates in assigned meetings with recruiters, departments and combined meetings with Student Financial Services

    • Supports Enrollment initiatives as a team

    • Participates in Enrollment Management office planning and development meetings

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY: Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: Ability to work with databases and spreadsheets and an understanding of high school and undergraduate college transcripts. Able to use effectively and efficiently the basic Microsoft suite as well as able to quickly learn and use the CRM - Recruit and relative interactions within Banner. Able to communicate effectively and professionally by phone and email.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess valid driver's license (for a minimum of three years in order to use university vehicles to transport other individuals) and be willing to travel and use personal car when necessary. Must carry the required insurance levels on their personal vehicles.
