Strategic Planning Director directs and oversees an organization's strategic and long-range goal planning function. Drives strategic initiatives and supports the development of long-term growth plans and profitability goals. Being a Strategic Planning Director analyzes emerging industry trends, expansion opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, competitive threats, the viability of outside business partners, and sources of capital. Establishes and retains relationships with industry analysts and the investment community. Additionally, Strategic Planning Director utilizes data-driven methodologies to analyze business performance metrics and process improvement options effectively. Develops reporting and tools to communicate strategic plans and concepts to leadership. Conducts periodic status reviews of organizational goals and objectives to identify roadblocks to progress. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Strategic Planning Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Duties: To manage, direct and coordinate the activities and operations of assigned divisions within the Planning & Development Department including code services, city planning, or community and economic development; to coordinate assigned activities with other city departments, division and outside agencies; and to provide highly responsible staff support to the Planning & Development Director, Receives general administrative direction for the from the Planning & Development Director; exercises direct supervision over assigned management, supervisory, professional, technical and clerical staff. Manage and participate in the development and administration of the budgets for assigned divisions; forecast funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor expenditures; recommend adjustments as necessary. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Eight(8) years of increasingly responsible experience in assigned areas of responsibility including city planning, community and economic development or code services. five(5) years of administrative or supervisory responsibility is also desired. A Master;s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning, architecture, civil engineering, economics or a related field.
