Strategic Planning Director directs and oversees an organization's strategic and long-range goal planning function. Drives strategic initiatives and supports the development of long-term growth plans and profitability goals. Being a Strategic Planning Director analyzes emerging industry trends, expansion opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, competitive threats, the viability of outside business partners, and sources of capital. Establishes and retains relationships with industry analysts and the investment community. Additionally, Strategic Planning Director utilizes data-driven methodologies to analyze business performance metrics and process improvement options effectively. Develops reporting and tools to communicate strategic plans and concepts to leadership. Conducts periodic status reviews of organizational goals and objectives to identify roadblocks to progress. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Strategic Planning Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Job Description Summary:
    Serve in a leadership role for the University of Kansas Medical
    Center by strengthening community relationships and managing strategic partnerships with a particular focus on the Kansas City, KS and Kansas City metro communities. Function as the programmatic lead for Public Private Partnership development and execution. Create, enhance and sustain relationships between the campus and its external constituencies in the KC metropolitan area. Develop and implement strategies to proactively grow and maintain strong community connections. Serve as a key point of contact between community leaders and KUMC faculty and staff for community engagement efforts.

    Work location: Hybrid (remote and in-office)

    Anticipated hiring range: $90,000 - $100,000

    Job Description:
    Required Qualifications

    Education: Bachelor's degree in communications, business, public relations, nonprofit leadership or related field.

    Work Experience:
    4 years of demonstrated successful experience in a leadership role in community engagement or community relations in higher education, business or a non-profit setting.

    Experience giving presentations.

    Program management including achieving goals, budgeting, strategic planning and program development.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Education: Master's degree in communications, business, public administration, higher education or related field

    Work Experience:
    Community engagement/relations experience in an urban setting

    Knowledge of research and health care

    Project management experience

    Job Duties Outlined:
    Develop KUMC's community relations strategy and infrastructure and align community relations programs and projects accordingly. Align and collaborate with KU-Lawrence and KU-Edwards strategies and activities. Oversee strategic implementation, external partner management and operational decisions in support of the strategic plan.

    Consistent with the overall community relations strategy, cultivate new relationships in Kansas City, KS and the KC metro area and manage projects to broaden the University of Kansas Medical Center's impact. Interact with constituents, community leaders and the public to promote community involvement at the academic medical center.

    Serve as the key medical center contact with community partners. Build solid relationships and develop critical communication links with constituents while clarifying strategic initiatives and generating needed support.

    Monitor and report the effectiveness of initiatives with community partners to ensure that there are measurable results demonstrating return on investment and mutual benefit for all projects.

    Function as the lead internal liaison regarding public private partnership projects and initiatives. Build relationships and collaborations between the private sector and the University of Kansas Medical Center and bring key KUMC experts to the table with community and private representatives to help move initiatives forward. Provide regular updates to senior leadership regarding community development and public private partnerships.

    Liaise with community relations counterparts from the KU-Lawrence and KU-Edward campuses to coordinate and strategize community relations and civic engagement activities, including community sponsorships and memberships.

    In conjunction with the Executive Vice Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and Director of Government Relations, assist with managing KUMC's community philanthropy initiatives and institutional memberships including making related budget decisions and payments consistent with mission priorities.

    Serve on various community boards or committees in KCK or the KC metro that support KUMC's community relations mission and/or at the direction of the Vice Chancellor or Executive Vice Chancellor.

    Develop a system to track community involvement and develop a core infrastructure that supports community relations best practices across the University of Kansas Medical Center campus, including maintaining a website that highlights KUMC community relations efforts and outcomes.

    Manage KUMC's annual United Way campaign including liaising with United Way representatives, organizing campus communications and overseeing other details and activities.

    Act as a project lead on other relevant programs in the Institute for Community Engagement as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

    Compensation Statement:
    The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
