Strategic Planning Director directs and oversees an organization's strategic and long-range goal planning function. Drives strategic initiatives and supports the development of long-term growth plans and profitability goals. Being a Strategic Planning Director analyzes emerging industry trends, expansion opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, competitive threats, the viability of outside business partners, and sources of capital. Establishes and retains relationships with industry analysts and the investment community. Additionally, Strategic Planning Director utilizes data-driven methodologies to analyze business performance metrics and process improvement options effectively. Develops reporting and tools to communicate strategic plans and concepts to leadership. Conducts periodic status reviews of organizational goals and objectives to identify roadblocks to progress. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Strategic Planning Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Strategic Planning Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. DIRECTOR, PLANNING

  • Directs the coordination of an urban planning program, including the coordination, development and effectuation of the comprehensive plan, amendments to the plan, site plans, drawings and reports for the City of Miami.
    Directs through subordinate personnel the activities of professional city planners to include areas of general planning, land development, planning research, and community planning. Ensures the development of programs for compiling and analyzing data on economic, social and physical factors affecting land use, and for preparing graphic and narrative reports on data. Recommends governmental measures to control and guide the City’s development and renewal. Coordinates federal and state grants-in-aid. Develops the departmental budget. Attends meeting to present budget, activity reports and plans for future development. Reports to City Manager, Deputy City Manager, or designee.
    Master’s degree in City, Regional or Urban Planning, Geography, Architecture, Business or Public Administration, or a closely related field and extensive eight (8) years progressively responsible experience in planning which must include considerable four (4) years experience as a high level administrator. 

    OR

    Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a Bachelor’s Degree in an aforementioned or closely related field.

    NOTE: Candidates will be subject to a Level II background screening.

    Proof of education in the form of a Master’s degree in City, Regional or Urban Planning, Geography, Architecture, Business or Public Administration, or a closely related field  from an accredited institution. Official/unofficial transcripts are also accepted. If submitting transcripts, transcripts must include the following: student's name, school name, number of credits, degree completion, and major.  Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts. 

     

    Foreign diplomas/degrees must be submitted with a credential evaluation report from an approved credential evaluation agency*. Translations of diploma/degrees are not accepted. If degree/diploma does not reflect the academic major on its face, transcripts indicating degree completion must be submitted.  Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts.


    To qualify under the equivalency clause, applicant must provide proof of education in one or more of the following applicable forms: copy of Bachelor's degree or higher in an aforementioned or closely related field. 

     

    *Approved Credential Evaluation Agencies: 

    Credential evaluation reports showing the United States equivalency for academic credentials earned in other countries may be provided by:

     

    • An accredited four-year college or university in the United States, OR
    • A current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), OR
    • A current member of the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE), OR
    • A recognized Professional Organization
