Strategic Planning Director directs and oversees an organization's strategic and long-range goal planning function. Drives strategic initiatives and supports the development of long-term growth plans and profitability goals. Being a Strategic Planning Director analyzes emerging industry trends, expansion opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, competitive threats, the viability of outside business partners, and sources of capital. Establishes and retains relationships with industry analysts and the investment community. Additionally, Strategic Planning Director utilizes data-driven methodologies to analyze business performance metrics and process improvement options effectively. Develops reporting and tools to communicate strategic plans and concepts to leadership. Conducts periodic status reviews of organizational goals and objectives to identify roadblocks to progress. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Strategic Planning Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     The Director of Strategic Sourcing role is a combined role responsible for leading the Purchasing team (direct and indirect) and its performance within the North American region. This role ensures ongoing sourcing support for the introduction of new products as well as the definition and execution of commodity strategies for the region in alignment with global directions.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Managerial Functions:
    • Plan, organize, execute and continuously improve department initiatives that align with our company strategy and key performance metrics.
    • Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving to consistently and efficiently make reliable business decisions.
    • Responsible for department budget and effective utilization of resources to achieve maximum results.
    • Responsible for performance management (candid evaluations, constructive feedback, career development, etc.) of all subordinates and maintains accountability for the entire team throughout the organization.
    • Ensures an environment that promotes communication, collaboration, and accountability with team members, cross-functional departments, and global colleagues.
    • Leads by example and demonstrates the company's core values of expertise, passion, agility, and entrepreneurship.
    • Treats all levels of the organization with respect, honesty, and integrity while supporting diversity, inclusion, compliance, and safety of all employees.

    Strategic Functions:
    • Leads and directs the respective commodities worldwide and functional lead of strategic buyers regarding commodity targets.
    • Ensures the on-time execution of procurement tasks to support regional projects and global initiatives
    • Manages the resource requirements between regional projects and global commodity management and ensures resource availability.
    • Develop an overall vendor base that creates and sustains a competitive advantage, utilizing global market exploitation, leveraging spend, and leveraging technologies.
    • Develops, improves, implements, and executes the commodity strategies globally while utilizing local resources (Strategic Buyers) and strong alignment within WN Group.
    • Monitors and analyzes the overall supply chain, strategic developments within the supply chain (regional/global) and within the commodity, cost developments, and innovative approaches to process, product, and procurement execution.
    • Negotiates long-term and strategic contracts.
    • Optimizes the supplier portfolio and defines strategic partners.
    • Ensures commodity activities align with Product Development, Regional Requirements, and expectations related to cost, quality, and delivery.
    • Participates in developing global corporate activities (such as process definitions, improvements, or cost initiatives) and ensures the implementation within the region.

    Metrics:
    • Establish and maintain measurable performance metrics for procurement activities including but not limited to cost and supplier performance and reports to Management.
    • Oversees financial performance of department and controls budget.
    • Drives usage of cost models to validate commodity strategies and to understand significant cost drivers.
    • Ensures and reports on the cost performance for each commodity and mitigates negative price impacts.

    Process Improvement:
    • Directs and monitors the continuous improvement of processes in the strategic purchasing environment.
    • Identifies and defines cost reduction projects and monitors the execution.
    • Leads supplier improvement projects for strategic/high-risk suppliers.
    • Ensures compliance with relevant processes.

    Supply Chain/Vendor Functions:
    • Oversees and directs performance improvement and recovery plans that are developed, issued, tracked, and reported related to supply chain management, including cost, quality, and delivery.
    • Leads and ensures development of supply chain and commodity strategies are in line with corporate initiatives such as product development/improvement projects, cost reductions, and supply chain development.
    • Leads the regional CPQ organization within the scope of the strategic process and manages the following: Commodity, Supplier and Negotiations strategies, Supplier selection/de-selection, Supplier Evaluation, execution of supply chain solutions (i.e., VMI), and the execution and implementation of commodity strategies.
    • Negotiates and executes purchase commitments/vendor contracts and leads the contract management execution
    • Manages all activities that develop relationships with suppliers.

    Safety:
    • Provides assistance in support of the safety strategy to reduce work-related injuries.
    • Promotes a safe working environment.
    • Performs all job functions in a safe manner and maintains safety awareness.
    • Report known accidents, injuries, and unsafe practices or conditions to the safety manager.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing/Operations Management or a related business program is required. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
    • A minimum of 10 years of Supply Chain/Strategic Sourcing experience in manufacturing and ERP environments. Prior managerial/leadership experience required.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and public speaking skills. Excellent negotiation and assertiveness skills. German language skills are a plus, but NOT mandatory.
    • Proven effectiveness with change process, project management, and organizational leadership. Proven experience with strategic and entrepreneurial thought processes.
    • Proven results in negotiations with suppliers with a focus on long-term agreements.
    • Proven effectiveness with supply base qualification and development with quantitative evaluation and cross-functional teams.
    • Proven track record of developing and implementing process improvements.
    • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. Flexible with a capacity for teamwork.
    • Ability to travel up to 30-50%, including internationally, on short notice.
    • Proficient computer skills, including Word and Excel.
    • Current APICS or ISM certification.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND/OR WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to use a keyboard, calculator, and telephone.
    • Frequent sitting, talking, hearing, and occasionally standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting (10 lbs.), and an ability to adjust vision for close vision work.
    • Up to 10% of the time is spent in manufacturing environments around industrial equipment. Must be able to travel up to 50% domestically and internationally.
